Best city in world for kitesurf vacation

Hi,

What are the best cities to visit and be able to kitesurf.
I know Cape Town.

Any others? Any part of the world, And time of year for wind.
Low crime, clean water appreciated.

Auckland, wind all year. Although this year was unusually bad for wind compared to normal anyway. 4/3 winter 3/2 or boardies summer.

15,000km of coastline..in Auckland it is 45 mins from the Pacific to the Tasman, 2 completely different oceans.


It is most varied place on earth for kiting. One coast can be 10ft waves and 30knots +, the other flat slicks and 25.

There is not one "goto spot" like in other countries, all ways driving around and as angles shift from maritime weather.

It can be gusty but there is usually plenty of wind.

If you find yourself with an almost no wind forescast and there is even a light seabreeze - arrive at raglan (just over 2hours) just after high tide and you will be fully powered.

Not sure Prea/Jericoacoara counts as "a city" but if we are allowed to suggest rural spots then the Island of Anglesey is pretty good in North Wales.

Rhosneigr is world class with waves out the back (full ocean swell … over the horizon is S America) and sections of flat at the front. Cover wind directions SW, W, WNW. If the wind is S or SE Newborough is good 20 minutes away and if N then there is Lligwy 40m away. The only wind direction not covered is ENE through ESE but that is vanishingly rare wind direction anyway. So 95% of all windy days covered and windy it is … trees barely grow near the coast its that windy.

I agree, Jericoacoara is not much of a city, very small.Also the cities in the west coast of Ceara ( Itarema, Guajiru, Paracuru, Icarai, etc) and in the coast of Piaui ( Barra Grande,Luis Correa) dont amount to much citywise.But they provide the basic needs in infrastructure and a few very nice restaurants.Now , when it comes to kiting it is paradise, from July through January you can count on every single day with wind above 20 knots, sideshore, warm water and almost no dangerous creatures in the water.You can do downwinders of 500 km , most of the time with a car following you at the beach.At the low season, wind is milder, from 10/20 knots.This year, the worst in the last ten( it rained a record amount) i would say that at Prea you could kite 80% of the days if you use bigger kites or foilboards.Temperature varies from 28/32 Celsius year round.so, if you dont care for shopping malls and much city attractions, Prea and in general, Ceara and Piaui in Brazil are top spots.

i do my best to avoid the northern(and cold southern) latitudes at all costs
i'm sure the wilderlings and giants up there are nice folks.....but freezing cold water is a big *no thanks*

Cities? What are you looking for in a "city"? If you're just looking for somewhere nice to kitesurf, there are plenty of options. If you're looking for somewhere with convenient access to good kitesurfing that is also a large & interesting city with diverse cultural interest, nightlife, dining etc. - that's a different thing. I'd put Lisbon on the list, perhaps San Francisco, Sydney.
