Hi kiters,
I've already been to Portugal and I already know some good spots in the north like Esposende or Viana do Castello. But next week I'll be in Porto without a car for only a few days. There will be wind and I'd like to go kiting. Does anyone know if it's possible to go on the water very close to Porto. Maybe somewhere around where the douro river reaches the Atlantic. Is it allowed in July? Are there many people on the beach?
I don't wanna spend money to bring my gear by plane for not being able to go on the water.
Thanks for your help.

Hello. There are many spots in the near Porto area that we kite often all year round and a lot more in the Summer months. Here listed below are some of the more visited spots in North winds (Summer winds):
North of the Douro River: Leça da Palmeira, Praia do Aterro
South of the Douro River: Douro Cabedelo Beach, Praia da Sereia
When the South winds blow (not too common in the Summer months) we kite at Matosinhos Beach - but in the Summer (~July-August) kiting there is said to be prohibited. It's only good in South winds anyway.
Don't leave your gear at home!

One more question. Is there also a possibility to rent the gear. The forecast got worse and for only one day renting will be cheaper than carrying by plane

No, no rental options that I know of.
