Your dream kiting year...

Postby NomadicEric » Sun Oct 18, 2020 2:48 am

Hi All, I'm new here. I started kiting earlier this year and all I think about is traveling the world for kiting!!! I'm a dreamer, what can I say?

So for fun, if you could do an "around the world" one year kiting trip adventure, where would you go and when?
RULES:
- Start in the US and move in one direction (roughly) around the world
- 12 months of travel with no less than 15 days and no more than 90 days in any one spot
- locations should be beautiful spots to kite in with good wind the time of year you'd be there.

Here's what mine looks like :D :

January: La Ventana, MX

February: Progresso, MX and Cozumel, MX

March: Columbia and La Roca, Venezuela

April-May: Aruba, St. Lucia, Union Island, Dominican Republic

June: van life down the western Portuguese coast

July: Teriffa, Spain with a day trip or two to Morocco.

August: Italy (all over!)

September-October: Croatia

November: Indonesia

December: Philippines

Just suggesting you to go within this period to Brazil. How long and when exactly is up to you!

Those are very specific rules. What I’ve done is purchase a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands and I’m just gonna live on it from Dec through March or April, traveling around the Caribbean. After that I’ll come home to Hood River for the summer. I’m supposed to be in Spain next September, so Spain and probably the canaries for September and part of October. Then head home and get ready to head back to the boat in the Caribbean.

It doesn’t fit your rules, but that’s my plan.

Sounds like you will be spending more time lugging your gear around than actually just enjoying the spot. I've been travelling and kiting 4 years now but do longer time in each spot. It's much better to settle into a place and the kite season rather than just do 3 or 4 weeks, you might only get a small time to kite if the wind isn't good in that spot too!

I reccomened halfing the destinations and spending more time in the water and less time in the airports and taxis. Just a suggestion, enjoy the kite life

Give Morocco more time. Just daytrips is not enough. And hardly possible, anyway. Morocco is better than Spain for kiting!

Not sure if the "rules" allow for a trip that gives you that much good wind. Not sure how many good days you will get from those first 5 months. So I will slightly go around them.

Hatteras and Hood River in the summer. Down to Brazil in the autumn. Then over to Cape Town. Philippines after the CT season ends. Down to Madagascar in April. So finish off in Indonesia come summer.

Missing Australia of the obvious ones. Brazil and SA got to be included. By far the best places I have been to.

Some nice spots in Europe during summer as well, but less interesting for me as an European.

Could have dropped by Cabarete on the way down to Brazil I guess.

I’d also add Mauritius, probably the best place I’ve been for kiting, and Oman, unknown but amazing conditions with flat & waves from June to September.
