Hi,
First up, sorry for my English i'm Dutch.
We're going to Sicily is August and i'm wondering if the are any spots that are good for kiting near Catania
I know the westside of the island (Stagnone) is famous but it's a too far drive for a session.
THANKS

as far as I know - Stagnone is the only (fairly) reliable spot there. I was just once in Sicily though, not an expert nor local

Hi xanpet,
Peppe here, local kite/surfer.
Although Stagnone is a very reliable spot it’s indeed very far from Catania, 3:30h drive.
Your best option is Pozzallo, thermal winds and kite clubs with authorized kite areas, very important during summer, especially in August, due to the big amount of people on the beach. On a steady high pressure you can get 12/16knots, otherwise best wind direction is W and WNW.
If instead there is an “Anticiclone Africano” (high pressure system originated from North Africa) chance of getting wind are smaller all over the island, although food, wine and nature will make up for it!

sicily number one in the world for food and wine .....not much wind exept stagnone. sardinia number one in italy for wind.....
puglia has wind and food and not strugling with ferries. all of them to avoid in my opinion from 5 to 20 august ....few italians going abroad for vacations due to covid so beaches full of bathers ,kiters, windsurfers, swimmers etc....last summer hot everywhere...best june september
