Nice hang out for single kiter in Europe in September?

Postby Delta99 » Sat Aug 07, 2021 10:39 pm

Where should a single kiter go in September in Europe where there also will be a vibe with other like-minded to socialize off water.

Suppose they must have traveled there to be disconnected from their normal social setting. A place a bit cut off where you perhaps live at the kite guesthouse? And flat water, if I may while I'm at it. :D :thumb:

Tarifa. Brilliant. Not sure how much flat water you will find - and not sure how much travelling you see these days, but it checks all the other boxes like no other place I know of in Europe and probably the world.

There are other places, not in Europe, like Cape Town, Cumbuco etc. that are brilliant places to kite as well, but doesn't beat the Tarifa vibe in my opinion.

Conditions for kiting isn´t exactly my favourite though. When it is good it is really good, but when you get those really gusty days it is like kiting in a World War One war zone. Thankfully only had one really bad day for gust and a couple of gusty, but at least somewhat rideable days as well as some good.

Tarifa. While kiting is just as what Havre said - or maybe even a bit worse - the crowd is great. I've been to many kiting locations so far and, social wise, nothing is even close to Tarifa.

Go to Tarifa Kite Hostel, you'll find a plenty of ppl searching for same that you do. Have fun.

I was there entire Sept last year, and, while it wasn't as full as it was other Septembers I was there, there still was plenty of people (including cool group of Swedish that I was hanging out with - I guess you must be one too)

I think you are underestimating how bad WWI was

My first day in Tarifa I got flashbacks from watching WWI movies with a big subwoofer. Scenes where the soldiers are in trenches being shelled like no tomorrow.

Not that I want to scare people from going there. All days are not like that. But I guess it is helpful to know the wind is rarely smooth in Tarifa. Some beaches are better than others though. I got friends wanting me to join them in September as well and they are trying to tell me they know beaches further north I guess where the wind is a lot better. Not sure if it is true or just a trick to get me to join

Egypt would be an option close to Europe.
Better kiting and warmer water than Tarifa. Just shorts!
El Gouna is fun.

Sardinia is great in September too, water also still warm.
Need a car, many spots to choose from depending on wind direction.
Then you will also find nightlife.

Agree that el gouna is nice, however.
Getting to Egypt will be hard with the whole world situation.
At least the regular big holiday agencies don’t fly at the moment.
Also infection rate is quite high at close to 300k infected.
Edit: misread, this is total numbers actual rate is 50 a day as Toby posted.

I have seen the el gouna hospital from the inside and would not recommend a stay there.
Also insurance might not cover medical costs if the country isn’t deemed safe.

Infections are very low in Egypt currently.
Average 54 per day.

Friends of mine are currently in Egypt.
So there are flights.

Just check as an option.

+1 for Egypt or you could consider Dakhla. (I don't know how the travel restrictions are in Morocco).

yes, this is very popular kiting destination for Polish, and I see at FB groups that ppl fly there all the time & I've read that restrictions there are very light actually. Not just now but all the time since beginning of the year.

In case someone needs to fly there, check polish tour operators, there are charter flights to resorts in Egypt from almost any Polish airport : )

Even if September is only 3 weeks away it is extremely difficult to say where the no. of infections might just sky rocket. Some weeks ago most people would have considered Israel one of the "safest" places to go and now they are re-introducing restrictions again. Almost a complete shot in the dark.

Always wanted to go to Dahab. Looks brilliant, but it was difficult to get to even when things were normal from Norway.
