Northwest ireland (Donegal) spotsearch with south/sourthwesterly

Postby DonaldM » Tue Aug 10, 2021 9:49 pm

Been looking around on maps/windfinder. Only place without windshadow from mountains and cliffs with S/SSW seems to be Fintra Beach (https://goo.gl/maps/G9m31wQQhey3PAV3A) but seems small and tricky with rocks.

Alternatives I have is Dooey beach (https://goo.gl/maps/pfWEmoZz3QGuygZ59) but doesn't look too good with S/SSW, more for westerly I think.

Any irish (or others with experience) kiters here with tips? Waves, Flat water, all welcome, we are two intermediate kiters. Wind is coming Thursday and Friday (S/SSW/SW) and we'd love some kiting :thumb:

Ps. If you don't wanna share your secret spot with everyone, send me a dm 😉

Was there’s six years ago and I kited off Portnoo in NW winds. We walked a beach around Sligo that looked like it would be decent in SW.

There used to be a kite hostel in Achil. If still there I bet you could ask them where local spots are up in donegal area.

Enjoy- we had an absolutely fantastic time!

Irish kiting community operates mostly thru FB groups.
Check that one to get in touch with kiting community in Donegal region:
https://en-gb.facebook.com/groups/IKSAHeadingOutNW/

I'm not that familiar with spots there, only kited in Rossnowlagh myself, which is excellent but would be offshore with S/SSW, so won't help you

Downings beach or Rosapenna works on S/SSW

Or Magilligan point (flat water) 2hrs either side of low tide (it's ferry ride from Greencastle) https://holfuy.com/en/weather/1144
