I'm doing the Cumbuco to Atins downwinder in November with Surfin Sem Fin. We will have a 4X4 to drive back to Cumbuco/Fortaleza. We are wondering how to best enjoy a few [3?] extra days after finishing the official trip in Atins.
We're staying at least one extra day after finishing in Atins, but wondering if we should stay in Atins extra days or somewhere else along the drive back to Cumbuco/Fortaleza? Drive back in one push or break up the drive and stay along the way back? I've heard the drive back is about 9-10 hours. Having never been to this part of Brazil, any suggestions or info on the best way to have fun and drive back is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Barry

Oops... Probably should have asked this as a comment in the other Brazil thread. I tried to delete this thread but not given that edit option.

If you've never been to that part of Brazil before I say definitely consider staying at one or two spots on your way back. And while there are plenty of good options available, you will pass the spots on your downwinder so maybe a spot is memorable and you decide at that point.
My suggestions;
1. Jericoacoara. Not necessarily for the kiting, but for the party and ambiance
2. Ilha do Guajiru
3. Barra Grande / Macapa
Have a great trip

nherbold,
Jeri/Prea would break up the return drive. I've been told it's best to book a room before we start this trip. We might only have limited options to book a room if we made reservations on short notice. It's high season, right? And...
Another hurdle for this trip will be getting a COVID test within 72 hours of departing Fortaleza. At least the US currently only required a rapid test, but that's subject to change before this trip starts.
Do you know if Jeri/Prea area has COVID testing available?

Check also requirements from airlines.
Some only accept tests from certain laboratories.
Weekends are always pretty booked…make sure to book prior to your trip.

I think it would be extremely difficult to predict what kind of requirements one might see in November. These days media in Europe is talking about the "new" "Lamdba"-variant in South-America blablabla. Cross that bridge when you get there kind of thing for me.
Jeri is 1000x nicer than Prea in my opinion (obviously not so that I necessarily think all would agree with me). Not for kiting, but if you are only staying a couple of nights (or one) I would much rather have spent the night in Jeri and found some transport during the day to kite. My favourite spot is Guriu. Best combination of flat water and waves I found in the area. Or since you have been downwinding the whole way you might want to go to one of the inland lagoons. Also really cool and some good ones close to Jeri.

surely not. You better plan at least 1 night in Fortaleza before going home to take the test. Or maybe even 2 if you need (just that you don't know yet what you will need 2 months from now, I know) PCR.... well, that (how much time to spend in Fortaleza) also depend on what time your flight is leaving.
Well, I'm sure Toby knows if there's COVID testing anywhere outside of Fortaleza, but again, I highly doubt.

which are the good ones close to Jeri? I mean, closer than Tatajuba lagoon? Is lagoa de Paraiso any good for kiting or too gusty?

I think gust from what I have heard.
Rapid test you can buy everywhere. Also do PCR tests. But, not all are valid for some airlines. I know TAP only accepts from certain laboratories...in Fortaleza.
So ask your airline before !
And yes, I would stay 1 night in Fortaleza and do the test when you arrive the day before you fly...just to be on the save side.
