I am contemplating moving to Spain for a while (a year, maybe more) and looking for somewhere with decent kiting, but not Tarifa. Is anyone in Dénia or other spots on the Mediterranean coast near Valencia? How consistent is the wind throughout the year? I’m aware the whole coast is more of a summertime spot with thermal winds, but what about kiting in the winter, as well? My main discipline is foil/race so it doesn’t need to be that windy. I can have fun practicing in 10 knots or less.
Does anyone have experience in this area, and any advice to offer?
In Denia you can ride all year round and more with hydrofoil. In winter you usually sail NW storms in Punta Molins, with 6-8m.
Now the toll highway is free, and moving 50km around you can ride almost every day from Valencia with E to Calpe with SW.

bveen a lot of time sites of valdigna playa ( Gandia etc) around April till end May my biggest kite is a 12m Reo wavekite, biggest board ( all directional) is a small sector tri fin...have never had more than tw days with no wind( for my 12m) it all depends on the direction and if thermic sets in...at around 14/15h afternoon.
there are still other good beaches there because I fear Valdigna playa is the part with the lowest winds...

That's interesting, my mother actually lives there but I've never visited. I guess I never considered it a kite location, maybe its time for a little family time..
These are great, thank you! How is the wind in the Spring? I am thinking of going in April or May to look around and get a feel for the place for a month or so. How's the wind that time of year?
