Hi,
I may be travelling to Austin for bus in mid May and thinking taking week off after to go kite, South Padre for example. Any advice on place to stay , how is wind in mid May and perhaps there could be better spots in the area that forum can recommend?
Thanks,
An

SPI will be good in May. Corpus will be windier. SPI if you want to just relax on an island with not much going on. Corpus is more of a metropolitan area. Or you can hit both spots since they are 2 hours apart.

SPI has better waves when it’s on. And Kiters concentrate into fewer spots so there is more of a scene.
Corpus has more windy days and especially more wind in the beach.
You are visiting at the right time of year and will need a smaller kite at least some days.
The NOAA forecast is pretty accurate to know what to expect. And the iKite to figure out where to ride on any given day.

Definitely make it to SPI and hit the lagoon as well as do a huge downwinder! There can be really fun chest high waves with the thermals there and the Texans or Mexicans will pick you up in their truck beds to hitchhike back upwind, good people!

Hi Guys, thanks for replies, all sounds fun. Any recommendation on place to crash, abnb/vbro/hotel online look quite expensive, I am on the fence of cancelling this cause of ~200 per night, may be there is group of kiters renting house that I can join and share cost same time May 19 onwards?
