I have a soon expiring voucher for Etihad airways (Covid cancellations in 2020..) and I want to use it to travel somewhere to kite at the end of May/beginning of June. I can only fly Etihad, so I have a limited choice of destinations (departing from Europe).
Looking at their connection map, I am considering:
1. Seychelles
2. Maldives
3. Sri Lanka - was my favourite, but some demonstrations are going on there right now. Not sure if smart to travel.
4. Phuket
Can you give me some advice on these places? How's the wind? How are the spots? I don't foil yet, so kiting for me starts at 16+ knots with my 12 meter kite.

haven't been to any of them, so feel free to disregard my opinion. But Sri Lanka is only of them with reliable, strong wind and, although the area of of lagoon isn't very exciting, everybody says that kiting is excellent.
Demonstrations? You'll just land there & then take your taxi / transfer to lagoon, so I wouldn't worry to much about demonstrations. It's not civil war.

I'm having a hard time convincing my wife that Sri Lanka is fine to travel
. If I was going alone, that would be my choice. Are Seychelles any good at the end of May?
Edit
Forget I've asked this question. Time will be too tight in May/June and then I am relocating outside of Etihad reach. Money will go to waste.. (or I find someone to book for and get money from them). Can delete topic

From Ethiad destinations I would recommend Indonesia.
https://indonesiakitesurfing.com/kitesu ... indonesia/
I haven't been there myself, but friends of mine have - and they have all absolutely loved it.
Unfortunately, I think we just have to get used to seeing more of what we are now seeing in Sri Lanka across the world. How much it will influence "rich tourists" I don't know. Historically speaking, it typically doesn't, but that is anyone's guess - so I see why one wouldn't necessarily want to tempt fate.

Hi ,
we are going on a trip in Egypt ( Red Sea) from 7th to 14th of May on a yacht kite safari. Winds are good at this time of the year and the yacht will hop form island to island wherever the wind is better. Here is more information:

I think Etihad are flying to Hurghada ( via Cairo), where we are picked from.
