Essaouira foiling November/December

Postby leeuwen » Mon Jul 11, 2022 11:46 am

Hi,

I am looking for a destination for my next foiling + remote work trip in December near Europe.
Essaouira seems like an ok destination on paper. Anyone any experience foiling there in November/December?
I am planning to stay there a month or so from mid November to mid December.

Thx

No, I ended up quitting my job and spending a few weeks in Dakhla and a long time in Zanzibar before starting my next job.
I did see some remote work location that seemed reasonably ok when I researched the location but I don’t remember the name…

I'm going to be between jobs in December and have been looking into Zanzibar. I'm reading that winds are showing up in December but may be mid/late December... so I'd begun to write it off. Curious about your experience. If there's enough to foil (kite) most days and TT a bit I'd be happy to hang and explore a bit. Is there a kite crew in December?

I would not really recommend Zanzibar.
Although the sea side is beautiful and the weather is guaranteed hot.

* Winds are unreliable at least the five weeks that I was there in Januari. I could foil most days (not really enough for twintip) a few hours BUT due to the tides it might mean being on the water at 0630. I also have pretty good low wind foil gear and skills so even for the foilers I was sometimes pretty much one of a few on the water.
If you go there book last minute based on the latest wind forecast.

* Sea urchins are horrible

* Low low tide is a drama, lots of walking (impossible to foil) and see above

* Don’t leave anything unattended on the beach, it will get stolen

I would guess that Dakhla or Egypt has similar or better wind statistics in December and is significantly cheaper to get there.
