Miami Beach Ban - Update

Postby Toby » Wed Jan 17, 2018 5:52 pm

First and foremost we want to thank you for your incredible response and dedication in signing our petition over the last 3 weeks. We have had an overwhelming reaction from the global kite community with well over 1000 signed letters sent to the Miami Beach Mayor and Commissioners.

Thank you !

As we proceed with our efforts we need to continue to retain the services of our lobbyist Congressman Joe Garcia. Joe has navigated us through this difficult process in a way no other council could have done. His guidance has been invaluable and without him we would have already lost this challenge coming from Ocean Rescue and Miami Beach.

Therefore we are asking you for your donation to contribute to our ongoing expenses. So far a very small group of us has been flipping the bill, but if we can encourage you all to make a small donation, it will go a long way.

In return and as a sign of our appreciation each dollar you donate will represent a raffle ticket and after 4 weeks of running our fundraiser we will raffle off various prizes to our generous donors.
Every dollar donated between 1/14/2018 and 2/21/2018 will go toward the fundraiser and purchase raffle tickets (Global Shipping included)!

Don't miss out for a chance to win a kiteboard, hats, fins, t-shirts and more. We continue to value your support and patience and are energized by your efforts thus far!! Lets show city officials how strong the kite community around the world is! Check out some of the prizes we will be raffling off live on our Facebook Page on February 22nd.

Go to https://mbkf.miami/product-category/donations/

If you have trouble donating on the website you are welcome to donate straight to our PayPal:
contact@miamibeachkiteboardersfoundation.com

All contributions will be counted the same. If you want to give cash on the beach, that works too. We will take down your name and it will be registered and the tickets will be put in the pool.

$1 = 1 Ticket

Thank you !

To cover the expenses of the lobbyist that has been hired.

Re: Miami Beach Ban - Update

The city of Miami Beach has organized a "Public input & ideas event" to "gather public input and ideas about kite surfing in Miami Beach". This will take place this Friday morning in North Miami Beach.

The city is trying to bring anyone who has anything bad to say about our sport and we expect them to be present in numbers.

Their plan is to create one designated kiteboarding area on 84th street, THE DOG BEACH.

We are not dogs, we are kiteboarders and tax paying citizens of the City Miami Beach and it is time they started treating us this way.

If we cannot rally enough support on Friday we will be overwhelmed by the Condo Associations putting our initiative back on the back foot.

Over the last 3 months as we have been fighting to preserve access we have seen hundreds of kiters enjoy this open access, now its time to act and to let your voice be heard in front of the city. We need your support.

Please come to the event to represent and defend access to our sport!

When: Friday, February 9, 2018, 10AM - 12PM
Where: North Shore Park and Youth Center - 501 72 Street - Miami Beach, FL 33141

We also want to thank all of you who have donated recently.

We are still fundraising and are asking you for your donation to contribute to our ongoing expenses.

WOW!! We have some cool news to share with you. As you all know we are currently hosting a raffle where every dollar donated = 1 raffle ticket purchased between the dates of January 14th and February 21st.

We just received two new incredibly generous donations from two great brands in the kiteboarding industry as amazing raffle prizes...
Cabrinha and SeaSpecs!!!

We have new prizes for all of you to win and in honor of these donations we will be extending the raffle by 1 more month.

You now all have the opportunity to win 1 of 6 SeaSpec Sunglasses, various gear from Lit Supply Co. as well as…….(insert drum roll)…. a LIMITED EDITION XO board and straps from Cabrinha that has not even hit the market yet and will only be released with exclusive availability. We want to thank these brands for their support towards our efforts and for their awesome generosity!

That sounds like a reasonable restriction to me as long as the restricted area is big enough. There are too many people in Miami and there are too many idiots trying to fly kites with little or no regard for beachgoers. This is how it is in any heavily populated area, you can't expect to have free roam of the beach for a sport that can be very dangerous to bystanders...

The City of Miami Beach has created a petition in an effort to keep us all from kiteboarding on Miami Beach. They say it's not a ban but to me it looks like a Kitesurfing BAN. You will notice that the petition has strategically left out 25th street as a potential Kiteboarding Launch spot. But as you fill up the survey on page 2 it will let you add a spot on 25th if you wish.
The city is looking to make a decision right after the 10AM city Hall meeting on Wednesday February 21 so please fill up the survey TODAY or TOMORROW at the latest. Let’s preserve free public access to kite on Miami Beach together by filling up the survey now:
