I completely agree. Cost is a big factor into why there are so kiters in college and thier early twenties.

The majority of the kiting population is actually in the 35-55 year old category. Industry data backs that up.

Many kites which are being re-released yearly and survived till model year 2018-2019 have minimal-to-none changes done to them and it's pretty awesome as I see it. Slingshot specifically makes some amazing wings and I'm glad nobody pushes them for "complete redesign" where things are near perfect already.

Every new model year is expensive, previous years' kites on sale are dirt cheap. Competition drives prices down but companies need money to survive, seems pretty fair to me....

college students can afford spring breaks, iPhone Xs and $200000 college debts. It's a matter of preference to spend on a new awesome kite

Also, high brand prices allow small players make a piece of foam wrapped into glass/carbon added 4xM8 inserts and padding on top to be sold it for $850 a piece and get a piece of bread where big companies missed to put focus on.
BRM, Groove, Kanaha...they wouldn't be cashing in if big boys did the right thing first.

Cashing in or putting their heart and soul into their work? I doubt the little guys are getter rich. No don’t by there is an easier way to make a buck but I’m happy for them to be able to follow their dreams.

The average age of a kiteboarder is the oldest it has ever been.

Many dumb sellout kiteboarding brands now support the gka that says kiting is sailing, that now put on an absolute embarassment of a freestyle tour on ( in the eyes of youth). I heard mention of clown tricks on a podcast.. i agree.. not right for the top level of youth.

There are no more pro freestyle riders left for young riders to look up to aspire to make a professional living ( a real one not a trust fund one).

Full retail kite prices are astronomical today. You can buy a used car for the same price as a single kite.

making it simple.. kiteboard marketing today is based on selling the youthfull talent image to balding middle aged wealthy men. Technical equiment features feature heavily to this audience that is incredibly receptive to them, whereas a younger rider could rip on a kite from 10 years+ ago and simply does not have time ti talk abour kite features at the beach.. too busy riding.

You can buy a decent mountain bike for the price of one kite and not sit on your hands waiting for wind.
