Hello,
I need some help:
86-88kg freerider living at a lightwind spot with normally 6-7-8 up to 15-16 knots. I have a TT 145x45.
Should I go for the Cabrinha Contra 17 or 19m?
Thanks a lot

Never used the Contra but my LW is a 19 XR and I’m on a 144x43 and weigh about the same as you. While I’m very happy with the 19 there can be a big difference in handling between a 17 and 19 so I’d say demo if you can.

Hey, Bjorn. I'm 80 kgs and ride smaller TTs (132-135). I've used the Contra 17 a lot, and it has all the power I need or want. If the wind gets too light for the 17 Contra, I don't really want to kite. I have never used the Contra 19, but I imagine it's pretty slow and sluggish. I can't imagine the 19 would add much in the way of performance, even in very light wind. If you can demo, as suggested by saltwaterdog, that's the ticket. If not, I'd probably be content going with the 17.

I suggest 15m and buy extension lines. You're too light to ride a Zamboni-sized wing. From perspective of a guy who ended up riding 15m Turbine as my best LW kite and I'm heavier than you are.

All right.
I will try 17 and 19 somewhere here in Stockholm...
Turbine would be an option as well.
Thanks a lot!

I'm 90kg and I ride a 146cm slingshot misfit. I used to ride a 17m Turbine, and what I found that it was really slow, and then super grunty. As soon as the wind picked up, I was immediately ripped off my line.
Like one of the posters up above, I just switched to Core, and I got a XR4 19m LW, and I LOVE IT! In my experience it turns faster than the 17m turbine, and the deposed is really good, so I can ride it in much higher winds.
Hope that helps

Can you write at what kts Turbine 17 was overpowered? I'm same weight and was choosing between Contra and Turbine 17m, from what I see Contra has higher wind range and better low end but Turbine has better high end as high aspect ratio and 5-strut contraction.
Turbines are on sale something like 200-300$ cheaper than contra
I'm looking to use this kite with with my 10 and 14m switchblade and NHP 138x43 or 143x48, if happy with 17m I might change 14m to 13m

I don't ride larger kites anymore b/c I am foiling but I twin tipped on the 19m Contra months ago in 12-13knots on a 145 TT and it was fast turning enough to not even be an issue if that worries you. We have a local guy that rigs big always and he is about your weight maybe even a little less and he rides the 19m all the time even up to 15 knots.
If this kite is for 75% crazy light wind riding coupled with your 145 board I would go with the 19m all day long. If you had a larger board or it was for more wind around 14knots I'd consider the 17. My guy feeling is go big and grab the 19m.

19m is alright if you weigh 130kg. It won’t fly in less wind because it’s a heavier wing but it’ll overpower pretty fast a lighter person.
Same with 17m - for 100-110kg dude it’s alright but man they’re slow as hell. Slow and heavy
Since 15m LW kites were introduced they’re perfect size for 90kg person, responding faster and steered easier.
Demo the 15m if you can. Either Contra or Turbine will do the job. XR LW is a nice option too
The key to LW riding is large door board, and fast kite on long lines. Unless you foil and then it is large foil wing and even smaller and even faster kite
