Postby GlennvanRooij » Tue Aug 14, 2018 9:21 am

Hi Community,

I'm on Cloud kites for over 2 years but having trouble getting them into Europe. So i was looking for an alternative. On my holiday in Biarritz i came across a Gong strutless kite. Looking for information on this kite was pretty hard so i made a video on it to share to he community. Please comment or add info.

Thanks Glenn

Nice review.

Pity Gong don't match the low weight of the Cloud. Imho that is the main benefit of strutless.

Greg seems to have imposed the distributor model on himself, how nuanced . He is not going to grow his market share quickly with those prices.

Tnx! Greg has tried Europe a couple of years back but there was no enough ask. I think the Gong is a nice kite for this price. But they both are differt kites. Love them both. Cloud is 100% freestyle, Gong is allround.

Totally agree. Those kites are very overpriced...
10.5 kite only $1440
Bar $450
Shiping $70

$2000 for a strutless kite and broomstick bar...

But looking at his webpage (a total crap btw), looks like he has 0 interest in acquire new customers:
- Returning a kite has an extra cost of $250 (plus shipping) :jump:
- There's a quiver discount but only applicable for non-duplicated sizes.
- US shipping only.

I’d like to try gong but 4 years of clouds make me skeptical about adding a pound of weight and reinforcements that aren’t needed. The price is ok though so why not try one...
The clouds do seem like the price could drop 10-15%.
I was one of the first customers but the price has kept me in the used market since then.
I’ll buy more clouds though some time, small ones for foiling especially.
They’re great kites.
If you ask me, all bars are a rip-off, whatever the manufacturer.
A fancy gimmick bar with plastic Christmas ornaments hanging on it is no better than the “stick bar.”
Both type of bar, plain and complicated, are worth maybe $250-300 retail in my opinion. You can get a perfectly good bicycle,if not a fancy one, for the price of some bars!

have a 9mt gong strutless for about a year....works great, very light bar pressure...does NOT fall out of the sky..just like the Clouds though...if it goes in the drink or in the waves in very light wind and you get water between the LE and teh canopy....good luck getting her up again. VERY hard to put it in the water though unless you totally sh#t the bed.

Could there be a LITTLE less reinforcement on it? I guess but ive flown it back to back with clouds and not much difference. Maybe the cloud feels a LITTLE more like the kite is "lubricated"...the sining of the cloud kite is amazing feeling...super smooth...its a rounder kite while my GONG seems more rectangular..maybe even higher aspect, when I fly it low in front of me and really sheet in.....definately pulls more like a 10.5 than a 9...and for the price I got it for it was a STEAL compared to the Clouds.

Like anything else....gotta try to fly before you buy.

Thanks for the review. Never tried the Gong had a go on a Cloud once and didn't particularly like it (overpowered). Never was a fan of strut less or one strut kites till I tried the new F-One breeze (3m), so light and nimble, can't wait to try a 7 or 9m to see if they are as good. Could be an interesting alternative .
