Hey all,
I've taken a few lessons and am looking to buy my first gear. I've read great reviews about the Naish Pivot as being a user friendly/easy for beginners to start and advance on but recently was watching the REAL watersports videos and they really hyped the Core XR5 as an all around great kite but also that they use it as a beginner kite in their kite school. I had originally thought the Core XR5 was more of a "pro" kite. Anyone able to give me some insight between the two? Thanks

Pivot is a great allround/freeride kite which you probably won’t outgrow your whole kiting career. You can jump high with it, you can ride waves. At the same time it is very user friendly. At the moment I am teaching my 14 year old son on mine. No problem.

I was about to write something very similar ! Super Kite, I don't have experience of the Core XR5, both are top quality products.

They're both fine. Core is generally more expensive, but has better resell value aswell.
Do you have a clue yet in which direction you want to take your riding?

Get a used kite first that you can thrash around with. Plenty of great deals out there. Love my XR5 and would never give it to the beginner me.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'm headed in the direction of jumps and small surf along with general cruising/free style. I've saved up for this so don't mind spending more if it means a better product/better fit for me.

Get a cheap tough as nails kite that has a chance of surviving the abuse you will give it. Like a Slingshot Rally, plenty of nearly new or even new around at silly prices. 2016 & 2017 & 2018 are very little different.

REAL was using Pivots for their teaching and rentals for a few years and I got both of mine one year old from them for half price, great deals. I don't know why they changed to Core, probably many considerations.
