under a 9m better a 6 or a 7m for twintip riding?

Postby Archer77 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 6:50 pm

Hey All!

my smaller size is an Ozone Catalyst V1 9m(have also a 12m) and I'm in doubt if take a 6 or a 7m as smaller size, I'm 77Kg and I will use it in normally gusty to very gusty condition raging from 20knt lull to 35knt gust with medium wind speed approx of 26knt, I will mainly use it with 2 twintip (one 141*44 the second 135*41), I'm between beginner and intermediate at the moment

my teacher and another expert suggested me the 7m as going on smaller size gap between sizes became bigger

thank you all!

Most definitely go for the 7mtr at your weight and experience on the TTip.
The 6mtr would be too on/off for your level of experience, and you would find it very frustrating to very annoying as you might find yourself lacking power to drive through the waves and even to get going, never mind jumping as this would require great technique when using such a small kite with minimal lift and float.
6mtr would be good for use on a foil board or as a lightweight rider on a surfboard.

I would go with the 7m. There really is not gong to be too much of a difference in the power between the 2. It will be enough of a difference where you will want to skip the smaller kite more than use it. I hardly use my 7m because we just don't get the winds for it here enough. But it's good to have when the storms come thru and I want to play it safer.

7 m2 yes, forget about the 6 to go with a 9.

It doesnt work well on waveboards 9 to 6, but IS possible if you want to go minimalistic.

On a TT it will be worse with such a huge gap, and when you jump or make aerial transitions with a 6 (or 5) you will drop like a rock - whereas a 7 will give you some hangtime eventhough not much, but as you jump higher it will be okay :D

To piggy back this thread, similar situation, same weight, wind and skill. Would an 8m be too big with a 134x41?

To echo what everyone else is saying, go with the 7m. 7-9-12 is perfect! Below 7 ideally a 5.5.

Whattheflock:
I think an 8m is good for those winds but can vary some depending on the kite and then also consider what other sizes you have.
What is your next bigger kite?

If you go to a smaller kite when it’s really gusty use shorter lines as it makes it more comfortable. Also when choosing your smaller kite look at the type. Unless your a pro you probably won’t be loopInng a smaller kite in plus 30 knots but if you like jumping on a twin tip in that you may want something that has better hang time and will give more stability while in the air like a core xr5 or ozone edge or something. Different style Kites better for smaller sizes sometimes.
