Which Kites and lines lenght are most people using for 30 to 50 knots

Postby early bird2 » Tue Oct 16, 2018 2:18 pm

Hi ! I had several days of strongs winds lately , I'm talking here 30 to 45 knots I'd like to know what most people use for heavy weather , I mean kites brand , how many strutts , lines lenght , I guess the Gorge kiters might have found the best rig since stongs winds is what they are used to .
Thanks !

81kg. 6m Ozone Enduro V2 with Ozone 23m lines on Lieuwe Shotgun 136 x 40.5

Above 35 knots I don't bother.

In 50 knots? Sorry, that's Storm 10, the OP is having a laugh!

i often ride in very strong wind in summer.
my ideal quiver for waveriding is 6 airush wave and 18 mt lines.perfect from 25 to 35.
over 35 i use 5 airush wave and 18 mt lines...no real limit for normal riding but hard to surf radically on waves over 40 knots...

max 35 knts for me which still can be some fun, above it looks/ feels more like survival of the fittest for me the average kiter, once over 35 kots its most of the time very gusty,
The ozone reo becomes too much too direct with lines under 20 m especially in these winds I like it softer , more controlable

Riding in the gorge, it is possible to ride in higher winds than most places because in the summer the current is opposite the wind direction so in 35-45 the water does not become ‘Victory at Sea’ chaotic. It can actually get huge river ‘swell’ well over head high and smooth out in between nicely and make for some spectacular riding on a 5m. It can get so clean you can actually feel somewhat safe jumping. Other days it can be quite gusty and that makes it more work and less fun. Gusty on a small kite can be crazy. Also, be prepared, when things go wrong in theses conditions they go really wrong really fast and self rescue becomes much more difficult. Lots of guys out on 5 & 6m kites and 20-23m lines. 50 on the other hand tends to empty the water of riders.

IrieJohn , I meant 30 gusting to 45 . There is no 50 knots steady winds here but frontals are strungs gusty winds .

5m SS Wave and surfboard in 30-35, gusting to 45. Best kite I’ve had in big, gusty wind.
