Sorry if I messed windspeeds and places. Anyway, 50kn is not very high speed for kite traction, except on the water it is. Like I wrote much higher speeds have been reached on hard surfaces with low AR LEI's which are the most "inefficient" kites there is.

For speed in certain conditions on certain boards they work incredibly, in other conditions tubes are more secure and comfortable
I agree. In lower winds race foil kites are of course fastest. I tried to think what kind of foil kite could be best for speed records in high winds. I have some ideas but much of it is guesswork.

How about you put away your theory and guess work and go and prove it on the water? I am sure Alex and Rob will love you to show them how slow they have gone.

Alex (in addition to his LEIs) had a 6m foil kite prototype especially made for him for his current speed and salt 2018 attempt to break the overall speed record.

Why should I try to do that? Speed records on the water are actually quite artificial, only possible at special or even built for places in some special parts of the world.

I much prefer doing high speeds on ice or snow, there is a lot more possibilities to do it and also speeds are considerably higher. Results less than 50kn are hardly worth publishing.

So far most of the highest speeds have been reached with LEI's, including current speed record (57.97kn) on the water.

Interesting. I did yesterday one design aimed for speed, a bit smaller though. If wind is +40kn 6m foil kite may be too much, at least on hard surfaces it is.

Ah well much as I wouldn’t presume to comment about how what and why with land based records maybe you could do the same reguards water based ones?

What I will say is though your assumption that water based records are artificial due to location etc even you must concede that land or ice record attempts are on equally specific surfaces or locations, so by your own logic equally artificial?

There is thousands of places you can do speed records in the winter. At least North America, Scandinavia and Russia have plenty of them. So not that difficult or artificial (like to dig half a mile channel on shore line for a speed record try  ).

Biggest thing in kite speed record on the water is it competes with sailing records. And as we know it is a sport filled with old money, sponsoring and advertising.

For designing fastest possible kite it is less interesting because it is slower and much more difficult.

I took out mine for a spin couple of weeks ago. Didn’t crash it. Will see if it’ll crash in 2019

I see both pros and cons of foils and I love mine like mother loves a child - unconditionally. But as a father I regret all the disadvantages of it. Still it is mine and it’s very pretty even not being perfect.

Inflated kites rule in almost every way, EXCEPT racing. If you want to get into racing, if you want to get serious, you need a ram-air foil kite. The evidence is overwhelming and objective.

I was at WISSA in 2015, racing on inflated kites. ALL of the winners were on ram air foils. ALL of them. The final results showed a clear divide between the foil kites and the tubes. The red Fs indicate foil kites, and the I's indicate inflatables.

Especially going upwind, ram air foils go like crazy. All of the hydrofoil racing is done with ram air foils.

I still keep a quiver of inflated kites, which I use out on the water in the summer, or in sketchy locations in the winter. But if I am out on ice, especially in a race, I'm using a foil.

I'm not against foil kites but what the f*** does this mean? If you want to truly advocate foil kites don't write about them! You sound bat shit crazy.
I am talking in general about characteristics of the kites and particularly criticising the intentional note written by Groesel. I guess he is not authoritity to talk bs about foil kites. Even if he is the North-Duotone Vegas designer.

And i think the new Flysurfer Soul is a real game changer for freeriders :thumb:
