Is it possible to kite in front of Movenpick Hotel from Soma Bay?

Postby Ikokite » Fri Jan 04, 2019 9:57 am

Hello riders!

After few years out of kite travelling scenary we have the chance now toi start it again, but with the whole family! So this means we need different comfort standards of what we have been used. We need a nice place where one fo us (me or my wife) kiting the other can stay with our daughter on the beach, close to the kite point. Like this we can change one to each other easily on our breaks.

I know Amwaj (or something like this) hotel is possible to kite in fornt of. But we are more attracted to Movenpick.

Do you know something about kiting in front of this hotel?

Thank's in advance for your help! :)

Yes, you can.
There is also a kite center.

Just be careful at the launch site and first 100m or so...wind is very gusty!
The wind comes here over an island.
Once out at the deeper channel wind will be smooth.
And further out is a beautiful big sandbar with amazing water colors.

Movenpick is a nice hotel. Try to get a room close to the kite beach.

Gusty winds, don't like them, as most of people, but we are used to with Mistral in Gruissan and Tramuntana in Sant Pere Pescador, so I guess it will not be a problem...

Thank you very much Toby for your fast and detailed answer! :)

sand with corals.
And dry at low tide...but winter has more water...so not sure if dry at low tide during winter. but shallow for sure.

Well gusty...normally wind is...but this can be quiet dangerous...in and out quick. because if kite collapses and then gets power again you get yanked...

Be cautious!

Let me tell you what I did: I kited once there...and after knowing the conditions there I stored my gear at Mangroovy beach (main kite beach of El Gouna) and took a Tuk Tuk daily there...much better choice...

Hi Toby. He was asking for Movenpick in Soma bay, but you seem to talk about the one in El Gouna, or am I reading it wrong?
Would you say that kiting from Mangroovy, for instance KBC, instead of the Movenpick beach, is better in regard to wind quality?
Which hotel would you recommend?

Oh, sorry!
Didn’t know there is a movenpick in Soma Bay.
I only know about the one in ElGouna.

Yes, way better at KBC than Movenpick!
But, further out same same.

I prefer Kite Power for Kiting...deeper water and sand only. KBC too shallow on low tide and too many corals...same for Red Sea Zone.

KBC is a nicer station though.

Never kited at new station further north. Called Freestyle or so? Looks best from space and no corals.

Take the corals serious...many cut their feet. Wear shoes if riding at KBC or RSZ.

Depends on your budget. Don’t know the new more northern 5? 6? Stars hotel.
Pricewise and location between Harbour and kite spot is Mosaique and Fanadir. Can walk to all and don’t depend on tuc tuc if none available...

Thank's all for your info. Anyway that it was for elgouna :)

So, everything you explained is the same that I checked out, just didn't know sure about if is it possible to kite in froint from this hotel from Somabay... We know it is possible from Amwaj, but yes, coral issue.

Checked out Movenpick elgouna, and was looking awesome, didn't know about this gusty conditions :O

And also checked out Kite-village from Hamata wich was looking the perfect kite place but not for family holidays + kite, wich is we are looking right now. Tha same for all the paces that your mentioned: Mangroovy beach, etc... They looks the perfect place to kite but hard to spend 10 days in there with a 2yo daughter, you know...

Anyway, really apreciatte for all your info and support. Thank's!!!

That’s why it is gusty.
It’s the El Gouna owner’s private house and island.

Northerly winds.

Once outside the wind shadow you will be fine.

Again, be very careful when downwind of the islands.

I read that Kite Power is closed. Or was it just moved further north?
When going as far north as Kite Power, it is not really walkable from central El Gouna anymore?
Is it still as safe walking those possibly less used roads?
