Dear friends, I had a new idea last summer but i never had the chance to film it, my Brother Vincenzo filmed yesterday ...I mixed Sailing and kite concepts , Basicly I use the foil like a spinnaker manteining it in a stall postion, the foil pulls you and you follow it with the hidrofoil. So we Will have a stern direction. It is very cool in the flat water but even more when there are waves because you can really surf them without filling the pull of the foil.
I was using 12 Soul and Onda Moses hidrofoil.
Wind was 16 to 20 knts
What do You think about that?

Interesting novelty, but there's a reason that fast boats don't sail straight downwind with symmetrical spinnakers, and it's the same reason kites sail VMG angles downwind - it's faster. And also easier by the looks of this.

Valerio,
This video is SUPER cool! Thank you!
I have been riding foil kites for a really long time for pure surfing for years! To be honest, I've never actually thought about putting the kite into a full blown stall to make it drift in lighter winds even better while on the wave.
Might be hard to do with one hand, but I always have a landing strap on all bars, so I imagine I'll try to just reach up and grab ahold of that.
May work, may not, but I really appreciate new ideas. Thank you!
Edit:
When I look at your video again, I see you holding the bar one handed. How are you streering the kite while it is in the stall?

Yeah i do that all the time for shits and giggles. Also get in there with some pivot turning loops aka drexler style kite aerobatics on your foil. You can do all sorts of slackish line tomfoolery ripping towards the kite.

Thanks for your replies. I’m happy you guys like it!
I keep my hand at the center of the bar and I always watch the kite to mantain it in the stall position. You just have to play with that (pull - release -pull -release) ... some time if you release too much than it becomes too faster and it goes to the zenit so don’t release too much.

Yes! I’m doing this with a 7m hyperlink in less wind. Mostly following windswell waves with minimum kite power. Setting the bar for backstall makes it easy. Obviously this isn’t a race winning tactic but it’s fun riding. A light weight kite is a must.
