Hi guys,
I've had an accident (not kite related) a while ago but am fully recovered again. I was able to work and put a little money on the side. I have basically time off from early February until late April since I am switching jobs in May.
So for the time off I am looking to travel some place where I can
kite full time from February - April(3 months). I am looking for fairly low cost of living since I want to stay there for a couple of months. So hostels etc would be finde. I would appreciate warmer climate and a high wind probability, if possible flat water spots. Germany is my home country.
Do you have any suggestions / own experiences you can share regarding that time period or destination you'd like to share?
I did look into South Africa, Cap Verde, Columbia, Cabarete. Apparently they are quite windy during that season.
Thanks in advance

I think a bit late for the season in Capetown and Colombia.
Cabarete good for sure...maybe February not that great.
I also think Sri Lanka should have wind...pls check for wind stats.
Egypt is close by and ok...still need wetsuit in this period.
Dakhla Marocco should have wind as well.
Check also in the Travel forum...there are two topics on top of its info per month.
And check the spots section on this site

Sal, or other Cape Verde Islands? Pretty cheap, good kiteboarding, though the island Sal itself is rather austere....but you might like that.

I ll have to disagree with Toby about Colombia.
The coast between Cartagena and Barranquilla will be nuking all the way till May/June.
Riding on 6/8m 5days a week.
Super cheap lodging and food.
It is a bit lighter at the spots in Cartagena( and not as nice anyway), but if you head to Santa Veronica, you will have a blast.
It is NOT a spot for beginners tho.

til March Cartagena is ok from what I remember.
Sure, if you go further East the more wind you will find...even 365 days at the Cap from what locals told me.
But i figured you don't want to spend too much time so far east, since there is basically nothing.

Thailand. 500 to 700 euro for all expenses (accommodation, motorbike, food and drinks) monthly. February not so good but March and April thermal constant wind every afternoon. Warm and cheep.

I'd opt for Thailand, better to live really well for little money and have mediocre kiting than try and stay in hostels with a bunch of kite gear. Not that the kiting is that mediocre, you should be good for several spots that time of year. I'd do Hua Hin or Pranbui myself.
Honestly, the food alone will make it worth your while over most other places. Eating on a budget in Egypt ... no thanks.
