most visible board color?

Postby AGK » Tue Feb 05, 2019 2:58 am

I'm getting ready to order a pocket foilboard and would really appreciate the community's knowledge on what color is most visible in the water when you're looking for it after a crash -- in sun-close-to-the -horizon conditions, low light, lots of whitecaps, etc. (recognizing these might be different colors).

Thanks for any help and opinions!

Andy

I would say Yellow/Orange, white has the most light spectrum but blends in with white caps. Purple and blues look nice on the beach but suck out on the water. This goes for kites too.

We are not distinguishing objects on black background for which green might be the best. Given blue/green background, red is complementary spectrum band to the former two, so it is the best.

Red is difficult to spot in low light.

I would choose fluorescent orange with a contrasting color blue or green.

There are photoreceptor fields tuned in to identify lines. So linear patterns are also more visible.

Red is the way to go!
1- Groove skate naked carbon or just skate with red fluo color

2- All Moses : t-60,t38,t22 or t16) in red

I'd think fluorescent orange/pink as well. Sometimes fishermen around here use this to indicate nets or whatever and I'm always impressed about the excellent visibility, also compared to red buoys. But for a board.. I don't normally care about the colour of my boards or kites but I might make an exception in this case. Seriously ugly I think..

red or orange is the easiest to spot in the water. Green, blue, brown, gray, those can all be close to the color of water while whites, yellows can look like whitecaps

Correct, red gets very dark in the dark, so I will also vouch for orange or yellow as the next best option, and use constrast "lines" if possible as you say.

I vote for orange (mat and somehow fluo)
I play golf and use mat orange balls. When the sun comes down I can still see clearly the ball (next to the flag of course...). That is not the case with white or yellow balls.
Also look at the color of live jackets, they are usually red or oranje

Otherwise you can go for this https://oceanrodeo.com/product/go-joe/

Blaze orange is the standard color of life rings and emergency life jackets aboard big boats etc
