Sonic2 6m info

Postby mr-markus » Sun Mar 10, 2019 9:44 am

G'day, anyone tried the Sonic 2 6m? In terms of turning speed, boosting, etc. Got me an 8m Soul but thinking of getting a Sonic for more high winds. Just TT no foiling. Thx in advance,
Cheers

I dont see any point of Sonic 2 as high wind kite. Any advantage it has is proportionaly less important as wind is stronger. On TT this is even more so.

Well fact is that i ride the 8m in 35knots and then it becomes a powerhouse.( read not comfy) So i my humble opinion a 6m would be easier to ride in a few knots more. Besides that a Sonic gives huges hangtime. Soul also ofcourse.

Cheers

You can have a look here http://www.lesfoilz.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3956. Lots of comments on the Sonic² 6m. I tried it strapless some time ago in 15 knots or so and I found it a very good kite. For strapless riding (surfboard), it is not really interesting (it is not a wave kite :-)) but if I was exclusively riding a TT and was into jumping and doing tricks I will have one (along with a 11 and a 15 maybe and not Soul). I 'am even thinking that this small Sonic² beats LEI for boosting high and riding upwind like a charm. You can also somehow drift it by keeping it in the middle of the wind window. Very very good kite from Armin.

Here is a video of one of FZ forum member with the Sonic² 6m:

Better get a Soul 6m then, higher AR foil kites don't have the best top end/depower so I doubt you can hold the 6m Sonic 2 in noticeable more wind then your current 8m soul.

Hi Markus,

(please use more specific topic headlines, thank you)

I am using Sonic 1& 2 since about 3-4 years and no, it is not the right kite for you. Even if it has great depower and I tried it till around 35 knts gusts with 63 kg on foil, as also Evan said: high AR kites are never for top end, as real usable range is here limited by bitchy behaviour. It is more a mid to high wind kite for light people, interested in a kite that has high potential in technical flying but also requires skilled hands.

If you especially with more rider weight hammer such a fast kite down at over 30 knts the chance to destroy it is much more likely than with a soul, even during ground handling, and repair will always be expensive for those ultra tiny cells, where in comparision at soul you have free repair.

I'm interested as to how you manage to hold the 8m Soul down in 35 knots! I am very light at 65kg but I find it difficult to deal with over 25 knots or so, fine for just bombing around but if you get a jump or rotation wrong it seems to have a lot of power to spank you with, compared to a smaller LEI where the power is more controllable.
