Approximately U$50.000 in kites and gear was stolen from one local store in Cumbuco, Brazil, few days ago. Again and again we see the same story happening around the world.
Few days ago the kite of a friend fall from the car. In a matter of few minutes it was gone, somebody took it.
Our gear its expensive. For some people it takes a lot of effort to finally buy that new kite you dreamed.
For me, it would be very helpful if all kites come with an serial number (and most of it has it) AND the most important, an online registration (in one website or app).
I ask myself if kiteforum could open that space. Every owner could register his own kite and gear in public forum in a easy way, adding information in the topic like "sold to, date" if they want.
Best would be one website for this specific reason, proper made for that.
The most important its a easy way to check some gear online. In case I want to buy a second hand kite, I could take a picture of the SN and easily check it on the app.
Something must be done! Illegal commerce of stolen material has to stop so there will be much less stolen material, dont you agree?
Ideas?

sorry to hear that.
For me it’s no problem to provide a forum for that.
But won’t program a website or app for that. I waisted already so much money for programming that didn’t get used. Won’t do it again.
Practically it would be a forum with many sub forums.

I'm pretty sure manufacturers maintain SN registry but shops don't.
What are other kite locations where people should not go because of crime?

no Toby, not here. Where I ride people leave cars open and gear on the beach for hours, unattended.
Boards get returned to owners by random people.

Best advise is to take a photo of each piece of gear you own and a closeup of the serial number. Some insurance policies will cover this if you also have proof of purchase. Some credit cards offer insurance for consumers goods when they are used for purchase. Notify local shops and clubs as soon as it's stolen. It also comes in handy for authorities.
