Flysurfer Bar Length for 12m Soul

Postby apollo4000 » Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:24 am

Hi folks, heard some different views on bar size for 12m Soul: 60cm instead of the standard 50cm which is the default the FS website.

What do the Soul riders say?

Does it make a material difference?

Cheers

I prefer longer. Currently have a 55cm Ozone bar but am considering changing for 60/62cm.

I bought it with the 60cm. No regrets. It’s not a fast turning kite even with the 60cm bar.
I primarily use it for foiling in light wind. 7-14knts.

The 12m is kinda the pivotal size where you could go for either length. Personally I would go with the longer because I like the additional turning speed. Honestly though the Soul turns so fast it isn’t necessary. I’ve also have ridden my Soul 15 on the short bar but I did find myself reaching up and grabbing a steering line time to time.

I use a 60cm bar on 12 Soul, seems to work well.

i've attached 46cm, 52cm and 60cm..to 6m, 8m and 12m souls so far...

i prefer the 60cm. (for every kite size)

..anyone try a 65cm bars with a soul (are there any 70cm control bars in production?)

I am using a 50cm Ozone bar with 15m lines on my 12m Soul. I downloop on every gybe and also sometimes when I tack and I rarely have any issue. The Soul is not a fast turning kite but once you get used to it you never have to reach up and pull on the leader line.

Having said this, I see no problem using a 55cm bar or even wider but it really isn't necessary once you get used to the kite.

few things to consider before deciding on bar size:
1. Main use of kite, in low wind or high wind
2. boosting on TT or hydrofoil
3. Other kites and bars - if you have mixed quiver of LEI and foils
4. Keep bar attached or want to use it with other kites
5. line length
for me low to moderate wind with 23m and 27m on a Soul 15m like 62cm bar

I tried it with 50 - 55 and 60.
With the 50 cm Bar it doesnt respond as quickly and i often find myself reaching for the lines to have a more direct input.
With the 60 cm Bar it reacts well, but i find the kite starts lagging when the input is too strong (kite stalls for a second before reacting)
So, for me 55 cm is the optimum size for a 12, as I have good response and no Lag.
