For those of you who want to read the story here:
Ruben Lenten via Facebook wrote:Here's how to break a leg kitesurfing. Just pull a
Megaloop and hit your quickrelease... OUCH. Gnarly
fracture.

But remember, it can always be worse.

They just broke into our van and stole all the footage
and gear.

Even then.

I'm in good hands. Muchf love and rocking a happy, full
and speedy recovery.

Thanks to bunq, Ozone Kites, and Mystic for the
support and you guys for all the love.

Happy Easter.

How do you suppose Ruben would quick release in that situation?
If a quick release would be useful, it's probably too late to get to the quick release.

Are we saying he went for a megaloop and accidentally hit the release half way through the loop??

why not?, you need to get rid of the board from feet before landing

If there were such a thing then someone with the reflexes of Ruben would have had time to activate it in this situation if it could be done manually. However binding releases usually work on force (eg skis) and I’m not sure a kiteboard boot binding could be made that would release in the right situation but not release when it’s not supposed to. Probably the same reason why you can’t get snowboard bindings with safety releases.

Wonder how he released the QR accidentally? Or could it be that pesky new click-in loop malfunctioning...?🤔

I was going to make the joke that the release solution already exists: It is called footstraps!
But I know there is some divided opinion on the safety of boots vs straps, so I did not say anything.

Plus, some smartass would mention strapless as the ultimate solution.

As to your comment about the QR, I am wondering the same thing. I really hope Ruben is not covering for Ozone and legitimately thinks he made a mistake. If it was a QR defect then the comment is inexcusable and a coverup. If the QR is not defective but simply easy to trigger, I am not sure I would blame Ozone but maybe the AFNOR standard which I think specifies a MAXIMUM push force required under load, but not a MINIMUM. Not sure about the upcoming ISO standard. If it is legitimate, then it may simply be bad luck on Ruben’s part.

Luckily I think the comment is probably legitimate, Ozone has called themselves out on release defects before. I am still going to take a closer look at my QR after this though!

I just can’t quite see how you could push away whilst cranking the bar for a loop. And nobody will have done it more times than him!
