Cabrinha Switchblade 2018

Postby Intet the Dreamer » Wed Apr 24, 2019 9:43 am

Hello and thanks for clicking my thread.
I am pretty new to Kitesurfing, currently learning in Thailand. My school obviously sells kite gear so I decided to compare the prices to the internet, because I figured buying it in thailand might be cheaper than back home.
I have recently practiced with a Cabrinha Switchblade 2018, Size 12.
Now, I have browsed quite a bit through the Internet but havent found ANY offers to compare.

Now here's the deal:
My school offers me a new "Cabrinha Switchblade 2018" Size 11 for 1.170 USD
They also offer me a "2018 Cabrinha FXD QL Trimlite" 44cm - also new.
Together I can get it for 1.450 USD.

Is this a nice deal?
With good deal I mean if I am looking at a good kite from a good brand for a good prize.

By the way, I will be surfing mostly around Kiel, North Germany and my weight is about 56kg if that plays a role.

Luckily the size of the Kitebag is just small enough to not charge me an upprize as handluggage.

Thank you for reading and I'll be looking forward to the advices of this forum!

PS: I hope I'm putting this in the right topic a I am new in this forum 😉

Maybe you should consider a 10 m due to your weight, that you are a beginner and from what I have heard, that the wind is weak in Thailand.

Thank you for the answeres.
I cannot find any switchblade in the coronation shop and sadly "you love it" neither has 10m nor 11m.

Maybe ill get an even better offer if I also buy a harness 😏

There is a school/shop selling cabrinha gear new 40% off and used 60% off. If you crash that 12 in thailand a lot/are not sure what you want to progress towards you should get used gear that has no repairs. If you have good kite control or just want new stuff, why not: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anz ... 3-230-3378

There are many stores selling cabrinha gear and you get the best deal if you call them up/tell them what your current offer is.

Make sure to get the 52cm trimlite bar and not the 44cm.

The 44 is too small for 11. I fly all my cabs 8-12 on 52.

I rarely crash my kite and as I get more practice that should be even less of a thing to consider.
That ebay store has quite good offers. I will keep and eye on that and see if I can maybe negioate for a better price at my school.
Thank you for the tip with the 52 cm. I remember having an adjustable bar last lesson, so I'll also keep an eye on that. Thanks!

King of watersports has a 2018 Switchblade 11 on sale and very cheap 2017 bars; https://www.kingofwatersports.com/cabrinha-sale
I still think that 10 m is the biggest you should consider, or maybe 9. Check Coronation for other 2018 brands. There is plenty of good freeride/ allround kites similar to the Switchblade.

Hi, I am also from Kiel.
11m is quite big for 56kg but I think it's OK during summer, because the wind is usually pretty weak around here during that time. You will get more time on the water then. For winter/spring you probably want a smaller kite.

I like the switchblade. It has a nice low end and is great for beginners. So decent choice imo. If you keep looking you will find similar offers in Germany though. Check how much money you save with tax return in Thailand!!
Right now I use cabrinha fx kites with the 44trimlite bar on all kites (6,9,12). Even on my 12m. I feel it's OK.

But as rleshem says, if the 11 is your only kite get the 52cm bar. It will feel better.

PM me if you have any more questions with gear or spots around Kiel.
