Foiling in Exuma

Postby phlow » Mon Apr 29, 2019 5:48 pm

All:

Heading to Exuma in a month or so. I know it's primarily a twin-tip destination with lots of very shallow water flats, but wondering if anyone has experience with the water depths and whether or not there are spots where it is sufficiently deep enough to foil on a 91cm or 101cm mast.

Didn't foil there, but did kite Paradise Bay and upwind to Cocoplum beach I think (there were old huts/swings from the Fyre Festival or something). Beautiful spots, but all flatwater, gets rather deep offshore if I recall.

Oh, and I would highly recommend staying at Paradise Bay, really cool staff with huts on the beach.

I'm not a foiler but I have ridden all over Great Exuma. And with the exception of Mariah Harbour / general area and the south side of the island you should be fine in most places. Tropic of cancer beach is chest deep 30' off shore. If you look at it on Google earth it looks 2-3' deep so its deeper than it appears. The area between stocking island and great exuma is deep as well, but there are more currents that come through with the tides. Plus I would bring it since the winds are lighter in the late spring and summer months.
