I don't get it: should the two metal rods in the CL going to the QR be visible in that way? It looks like the CL is not properly seated.
To put it in perspective: he bust his legs bad landing in water ... imagine if he had been jumping over hard objects - rock, jetty etc. & the QR opened ...

He will have it in mind next time...an accident like that stays deep inside your mind.
It’s a trauma...
Maybe any Ozone rider can shed some light if the QR was setup properly?

The end of the chicken loop is a closed square loop of metal, and yes it’s normal to be able to see the two sides of it going into the click in bit.

Well, at least it didn't break. But the release is on a hairtrigger for sure.

Thank goodness I've bought recently the ozone bar with old QR and saved some bucks.
I had once a Best bar with an awful QR that activated itself.

... and then there are the QR's that DON'T activate, even when they should.
It's ironic that this looks like a day with relatively mild winds by Ruben's standards. I would assume that it is the boots that led to the injury .. if he had straps he could presumably have kicked off the board on the way down.

I also had QR open on me...when playing with the board and it hit the QR of the North 5th Element bar.
Just tested my North Trust bar 5th element QR
When you push it up 15 millimeters it does not even open the chicken loop yet
But if you push it up beyond 20 millimeters the chicken loop opens up perfectly
Seems like a pretty safe system to not open up by accident if your hand touches it and it goes up a bit

Yes Flyboy, with straps he would have had enough time to kick the board away.
Megaloops with boots are plain dangerous....even with a bad landing you have no chance to kick it away just prior to the crash.
Well, it’s the rider’s choice. They are pros, Need to know the consequences.
But wannabe pros should be warned!

The QR loops perfectly closed.

You can clearly see that his hands gets close to the QR when pulling hard. Somehow he must have pulled it up slightly.

To me by looking only these two images. On first image black and red part of qr are aligned together on long edge. On second image red part is twisted from right side of black part, left side is still in contact with black part.

Probably chicked loop is stuck on hook so it did not slide/rotate towards the kite direction and megaloops tension twisted safety mechanism (pic 2) causing it to release.
Sorry about my phone finger quick paint, with pc and linetool would have been much better.

No! This is when he activated it accidentally!!!
The first shot shows it closed.
The second when he hit it and it started to open !
