Hi,
Many of you are using sliding spreader bars. What is the ideal line lenght? Could you measure and write down the dimensions A an B from the picture bellow?
I am building one to try for myself, and would not like to invent hot water again...
Thank you!
Jaros

A is close to zero on mine
So the bar can come as close to you as possible, and it slides well.

And B is as long as you can get so the bar can slide as far as possible.

Is 12 inches enough for B? Seems like a lot of people build sliding spreaders by cutting a fixed hook off a standard spreader bar. Most longer spreader bars are 12 inches, but that only gives an extra 6 inches of slide to each side. Is that enough to make a difference toeside on a foil or directional?

As I said on the other thread on rope sliders,
A is much better close in as you can get.
my perfect B is close to 12 inches.
strange that the standard slingshot rope spreader is way way too short at around half that.
I bought one and it was a waste of £55.
I will sell for £29.50 delivered with new rope as in the picture on the other thread.
but why anyone would want it is a mystery to me.

I use a 12" spreader bar for maximum range of motion.
For my preferance, I like the 'A' distance to never exceed the distance that a hook would provide. This gives me good smoothness in motion. I find if too little distance and things moved too easily and too much cause more wear from more friction. Too much distance changes the depower geometry too much for me.

zero wear is easy to achieve.
my solution costs around £50.
well worth it for zero wear and silky smooth slide.
also if the rope is wearing then the chicken loop is as well.

Interesting. I know only one method how this distance can be shortened from the usual and I've invented it. If rope is attached like it is drawn in the OP's picture it can never be as close to body as it is possible. Do you use some different way to do it?
For B I have about 10in. There wasn't room for more than that but I think it is enough.

Interesting replyes!
I remember reading in one old post from someone (maybe Starsky?), that it took some time to find out the perfect lenght, not too long, not to short, to get the best feel of sliding. But you are all saying that the rope should be allmost straight, so as close to a body as possible... I did not expect that after seing photos of some sliding spreader bars...
Any other suggestion?

No, just a regular carbon plate/rope spreader bar, B is 20 cm / 8 inch on mine.
See my harness, A is only about 1 inch even under load it hardly gets much more than that which is pretty close to your body, right?
Of course not "zero", but zero would be the goal
