Where to buy T Nuts and Bolts for Groove Skate

Postby ap888 » Sat May 11, 2019 8:39 pm

Would like to have extra... as one of the bolts Allen tolerance is quite loose compared to other ones shipping from Italy last time was quite expensive so US would be preferred as well as 316 grade thanks in advance

skate track nuts are slightly unusual, the new ones are very good compared to all the others I have.
ordering is a bit of a gamble as many others will not fit.
I will take some photos of the nuts I have and tell you which ones fit the skate.
I recommend anybody ordering a new skate asks for 2 sets of hardware( Nuts and bolts)
I did on 3 skates and have given many away to guys who have lost one on the beach.

just the bolts are available on Ebay, these are great with the flanged head so washers are not needed

From the top
The new Groove Skate hardware, great and they slide so easily, but rubbish if you want to slide on the mast without removing the screws.

Then the old groove skate hardware, very good, but still not great for leaving in the mast and sliding back in place but can be done with these

Moses 128 hardware, basic to say the least, and will not fit the skate, but the best for leaving on the mast and sliding back on the board

Lastly these are the original hardware button nuts for the Moses masts and these make great T nuts for any type of track, just grind down 2 edges to fit the track and set up as shown in the photo, cheap and easy if you have the spares.

And why do we not get given stainless washers for any of these fixings? The large ones in the photo are what I use and are available on eBay, or Lidl type stores in the tools aisle

if its just 8mm bolts you want then I bought loads off ebay, if you look closely in the box on the left there are 8mm bolts which i sprayed yellow for another job, but they are the best as not only are they allen head but they have a wide flange button head, so do not need any washers.

The M8 brass T nut at 2.15 dollars looks a good bet, the only doubt I have is the Groove Skate slot is not big, narrow top to bottom, width is normal, but if the Huston ones are a little too thick then being made from brass they are easy to file down a little.

they also sell "low profile" SS t-nuts that fit long board fin tracks used for retro-fitting foil tracks to boards.

Real Watersports also sells titanium bolts for a bit cheaper but might make up for it in shipping...

1. No the Groove Skates Tracks are the opposite, a bit to wide for the standard M8 brass T nut, apart from that, those from groove are anyway better:

2. Be carefull with those standard brass nut, I had 4 nearly completely broken ones in one board, the next driftwood would have given them the rest. Don't know exactly what happened used them for over 100 sessions with a lot of jumping, but maybe also a few times with the screw not completely through them. Screw length has to be very precise in tracks, 2 mm to less and it brakes the nuts easily, 2 mm to much and you will brake the tracks. Take care of that and for the rest always use a safety leash for your foil.

3. Another funny thing at the offers from houston kiteboarding:
a) Naish Thrust Base Plate 145 $
b) Takuma Base Plate + Nuts 100 $
c) again the same Pate + Nuts 29 €
https://gongsupshop.com/epages/box1707. ... LLTOPPLATE
As far I can see these three are all exactly the same plates ...

Who pays 100 $ for a Naish sticker? :D
