Flyradical 6 v 5

Postby Ice101 » Sun May 12, 2019 4:46 am

Hi guys,

I use a flyradical 5 which is fairly new to me. I like it because it’s nice and light this also causes me minor issues with landings though.
My question is the flyrad5 does feel a little gravely underfoot. Is this due to the fin type or is it due to slightly too much flex?
If the new flyradical 6 slightly stiffer? Does it have a little more edge and pop? Are the fins the same and does it have that same slight gravely feeling across the water surface at times? If the rad 6 much Iran improvement or same board new colours?

Many thanks

Hi,
I did changed from Radical 5 to 6 when it came out. Yes it is a bit more stiffer, and definitely more lively. Yes it has more edge and pop. Yes, the Radical 5 is a very soft flex board and Radical 6 quite different. The fins are more or less the same G 10 fins with regular 2 screw system. The board has very advanced chanelling just like the most advanced freestyle boards, similar to the Duotone Team Series or Brunotti Youri Zoon boards, so it is not same board at all. The Radical 5 is a super comfy freeride board and a Radical 6 is really a freeride/freestyle board with some of the comfort of the Radical series.

Is the rad 6 any less efficient in the lighter stuff. The rad 5 has great low end which is what I like about it most but the rad 6 sounds like more my type of board. May have to invest but don’t want to lose low end.

It is still an easy planning and efficent board. The Rush is the big rocker wakestyle board.

The radical 6 is much smother through the water and way better release for pop.
Regarding grip the 5 stuck to the water more but that meant it didn’t release that well and wasn’t as useable as the 6 is for jumps and fun. The 6 is a much more refined ride and ultimately a lot more fun. Slightly stiffer for jumps and the channels help it be faster and release better when doing tricks. The rad 6 is really nice. The colouring does make it harder to find in the sea especially when choppy.

Has anyone ridden the 138 and 133. Does the smaller width make a lot of difference in efficiently. My partner loves my 138 but she has only used it in lighter winds. I think she would get overpowered quickly. She likes the fact she can get up on it easily. Would the 133 cause her any issues getting up. She is still learning?
