Any reason not to just tie this to the handle on the back of your harness, taking care to use line small enough to break in case you catch something...larger than anticipated? Once you know you've got one on, just head in to the beach and pull it in the rest of the way. Seems possible, right?
Yes exactly, the amount of times I have seen a fish take a lure then a shark take the fish and even another shark take the shark... plus the obvious situation of being a lure/bait when you kite especially body drag. I think I would not be comfortable with this fishing method.
No probably couldn't count but that is not what I intended when I wrote it. The "and even" was intend to separate the events. There is places that catching a fish results in like 90% being eaten by sharks. And yes sharks do eat each other especially different species, but it is quite rare.
Watching that video made me quite concerned a shark was going to pop up at any minute. You do it enough and one will and eventually you may get also attacked. I can think of other ways to fish but they may not be as convenient. Support from the beach would be helpful.
You pull a fish in with a shark following, 99% it's in eat mode. 99% you ain't going to see it coming and 100% you are in serious danger. It could just for curiosity take your leg off and then you will bleed out.
Haven't got many good videos of getting them in, but here's a few photos of some fish I've got in from the kite by trawling.
I let go of a float, once the fish hits the lure, and chase down the float after a few minutes once the fish has had its runs, then simply pull the rope up til I get the fish, grab the tail and smack the noose around its tail so its hanging over my shoulder. jump on the board and take it for a ride back to shore.
I highly recommend trying this, its bloody great on the hydrofoil!
