I can only agree with Youri, each discipline should have its own champion.
Mixing freestyle with big air is just wrong. Only freestyle riders will join that tour.

How is running a World Championship kiteboarding competition using the might of World Sailing Lawyers that claim to own the term "world kiteboarding champion" and threaten other event organisers and lease it out to GKA not a huge conflict of interest. Especially when the GKA is made up of certain kite brands that fund their own riders to their own exclusive world championship competition through their kite companies while benefitting from the publicity of podiums and the event in general with their riders exposure.
Meanwhile absolutely sick riders that are not sponsored by these companies, the companies that also run the event and choose the judging and judging criteria, may get no funding to these events and stand to win possibly as low as $200 . (In GKA rules) - so guess what - it is not a feasible competition to enter - especially if you are from a a country far away from the event.
The competition organisation should not be funding competitors through sponsorship and also claiming the exclusive right to use term "world champion".
As for kiteboarding being sailing, this is just a beyond embarra$$ing big pile of kookness
Anti competitive practice laws exist for a reason in most countries and should be applied where possible.
Final comment on the GKA - swapping your wakeboard for your twintip mid heat.. eg Carlos Mario
This has to be the epitome of how not to promote kiteboarding. The most ridiculously embarrassing event ever in the kiteboarding clown show competition IMO.
Competitive Kiteboarding 2019 - go figure.
Interesting interview though. Kiting all those years smashing your joints and tendons is gonna take its toll, so good to get out while still mostly in one piece.

Before GKA we had PKRA and KPWT.
Nothing to do with sailing.
And guess what?
Poor riders still had no chance to compete.

That isnt the main point here, it doesnt make the situation OK, fair, or without these conflicts of interests that need addressing.
To make it simple: PKRA for example wasnt only funding riders that it sponsored to attend the events. They were also not choosing the judging criteria or judges in a competition where this happened also - where they can potentially direct the judging criteria towards the likes of the riders they are paying to attend... or be it the GKA industry members desired direction.
PKRA New Cal was great for Kiwi and Aussie riders, they even entered without funding!
To claim exclusive World Championship status and be structured in this way is so wrong.
