Ok, answering my own question:
https://openfoam.org/ (the engine)
https://sim-flow.com/ (the cockpit to drive it)

Just ordered the first parts for a CNC table I'll build soon.
Steppersonline for my stepper motors, drivers, interface board and water cooled spindlemotor.
Robotdig for splined pulleys, timing belts, linear bearings.
If you get this working, please let me know how! So far all of my experiments with CFD have resulted in failures to generate meshes from models or failures for simulations to converge. It’s an enormously frustrating learning curve.

I haven't progressed further with investigating the simulation tools yet.
Spindle motor, stepper motors and stepper motor controllers arrived and I have some 1800mm long rail and sliders on it's way. Still working out the y and z axis parts.
Planning for around 80mm z travel, 600mm y travel and 1600mm x travel.
Regarding the simulation and broken meshes, what do you do your CAD in?
I've heard that sketchup doesn't give the best meshes.
I use OPENSCAD which is a descriptive programmer's cad, it's easy to muck things up, you have to explicitly join objects, not just overlay them in 3D space. Once you understand the rules of the tools, it's easy to get good meshes. And if you mathematically describe complete surfaces, direction of facet coordinates affects which surface is inside, which is outside. Not sure about Klein bottles though!

A good alternative to the software packages above for this project or for any similar projects in the future is SimWorks:
https://www.idealsimulations.com/simwor ... -software/ (the CFD software)
https://www.idealsimulations.com/ (company developing it)

This is also based on OpenFoam, it free and unrestricted in its usage and comes with a good collection of tutorials, can be useful to quickly check / develop new designs.
CAD input is .igs. I am using FreeCAD which is pretty good at converting CAD formats into igs and again is free.
I hope it can be useful!

I've not tried actually using it(simulation SW) yet but I use openscad for my design which uses oriented ajoining triangles to form meshes. Other CAD may use "solids" etc. I can tell you though, that FREECAD will convert back and forth between meshes and solids. I think the Autodesk group uses solids. Meshes are skins with inside and outside defined by the rotation order of the facet corner coordinates that define it. Though it might seem tricky for a klein bottle, any practical one will have thickness so what we think of as the inside is still a surface exterior of the space within the wall thickness.
