Soul - landing with help

Postby apollo4000 » Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:22 am

....I think I’m over worrying about landing my Soul at the beach as LEI riders won’t just to hold the tip and let it flag. Saw someone trying to land last week at a local beach and the lander disappeared as the kite wrapped around him.

Does anyone else fuss or just tell em before landing...does it matter...just not ready for self landing yet.

Yes, you have to make sure that the person is capable in helping. Frankly, I prefer non kiters. If you clearly explain that they should grab the tip pointing down and hold it to the ground a couple of seconds until I am there, and you feel comfortable that they are capable in doing this, it's ok. Never had any issue.

Sometimes you ask "do you know how to land foil kite?" they say "yeah, I know!"... and grab the leading edge, pull it all the way down just to grab the opposing wingtip. Bloody hell dude, that was excessive!

Some actually stop and listen to instructions, they might not lie down the kite the right way, but at least hold it to the ground and even put sandbag, if it is withing the reach.

ask them to "grap your wingtip" (dont say the word "land")
..and that you will will immediately run over and take it from them.

Tell them not to reach up and grab it but to wait till it get low to the ground and then hold it there as you walk down wind so the upper lines don't wrap them . My wife won't land a tube kite but will always land my foil kites .

I have to normally give instructions. Frankly, non kiters get it right more than Lei kiters.

Youhave to explain to grab the tip, like you are going "shake a towel, and put it on the sand" And keep your back to the wind. This works for me. I've had teenage kids and posh looking women do it easy. They are usually pretty proud of themselves after!

Yeah I have had kiters and non kiters land my kite and I just say “grab the tip closest to the ground and then let it fold flat like you’re holding a towel in the wind, then I’ll come over and take it” works fine always have a hand on the safety and room downwind though

Only had one person try to land my 15m like an LEI and that was in Fuerteventura where the instruction was lost in translation!
