our area has been inundated over the last few years with massive amounts of weeds. it makes kiting with a surfboard extremely annoying with constant jumping off to clean off the fins. anyone know of good weed fins for a surfboard, like the old windsurf weed fins (but smaller obviously)? i need thrusters in particular.

Then they are not very good...
Weed fins has to be a bit larger but swept back so seaweed glide off.
As they are raked back they don't lift the same, so same size will result in a raked fin feeling smaller than a normal fin
Thus it has to have more area to feel right.

The makani fins look pretty big at 4.7”/12cm and have extra area/less concave trailing edge. Never tried them but look interesting...

curious as to why riding a soft top surfboard would have any effect on weeds and fins?

Some soft top surfboard fins are raked a bit more and less likely to catch the weeds ?

They still suffer from weeds, it's just there is no fin box to put in FCS or Future fins.

Exactly.
Most surfboard fins are like this, quite swept but still not sufficient to ride waves when seaweed.
Of course it will drop off again eventually, but if not swept even more, you can not ride freely through weed when DTL on a wave.
I like above Jordy fin set btw, just in M instead of this S size.
We hardly have so bad seaweed that we can not use surf fins though, but it happens occasionally particularly at leesides of piers.
