Seems unnecessary in such like wind. Just backstall land it and be done. In higherwind, I don't see this working at best and at worst, putting a lot of stress and possible sharp metal edges on my bridle lines. Why not just hammer a pole into the ground and backstall the kite into that?

Nice little demonstration. :D Good in a constant wind direction but what about variable?

IMO A stall handle and practice will get you through 99% of tight landing areas.

Sure, at times, You may end up with a rats nest but if you're done for the day and just want to get off the kite it's not really a problem. And again, practice. learning to sort out bridles is a skill everyone flying foils should have. It's not hard with practice.
My brand new Ozone Foil bar has a stall handle. Is it the most safe to fly the kite far over to one side 9 or 3 o'clock... wingtip touching the sand... then pull hard on the brake handle? Can you then walk up the steering/brake lines or would I need a sand bag & carabiner?
I need to perfect this for my 5 months of Mexico solo kiting. Wide open deserted beach.

Agreed, but do you have a limit for that method? 25 knots, 30 knots?

PurdyKiter,
I am not hugely experienced with big ozone foils, I have only just started using them for landboarding but my initial findings are that it is not always best to just pull the brake handle. Can be advantageous to use both hands at either end of the strap. Firstly it enables you to control kite rotation and, secondly it makes sure you have released the bar. In practice I usually transfer the middle of the strap to one hand as the training edge hits the deck. If you are backstalling from 9 or 3 it allows you to brake harder on the top line which I have found useful.

Similarly on downwind launch I let one side of the brake off more than the other to point the kite to which ever window edge I want it to go. Better than having it shoot straight up if you release from the middle of the brake strap.

Usually I just land to a tether, suggest you do this and gain experience before you walk the lines. Do not just tether to the strap as if the tether slips to one end of the strap it can cause problems; make sure the tether is fastened to the line poking out of centre of the webbing brake strap. Hope this helps!

Did not pick up on the brand new bar bit. If the brake strap has no way of tethering to central fixed point I could live with that but it seems a retrograde step to me.

As I said my experience with big ozone foilkites is limited and should have said zero with the new bar. I would be glad to hear of further advise on how to use the brake handle as my comments are only based on initial findings.

I've used both the backstall strap and the plastic balls on the back lines and prefer the plastic balls. Less chance of tangles, cleaner setup, and I can set them up to exactly where I want for the perfect amount of backstall.

PurdyKiter

Does your stall strap have a small section of the brake load line poking out at the centre of the webbing strap?
Used to be red line covered in clear tube.

Jason

Have you got any system for tethering when using balls or do you just walk the lines?
