Twintip damage can I repair it? Gash 5 cm

My kiteboard went on a solotrip and met a windsurfer. So now the edge is profoundly damaged and I dont know what to do. Maybe My Naish Motion 1.38 should be a coffee table in the future? If you look at rthe pix youll see a 5 cm long hole (gash?) Can I get the flex back if I repair with resin?

Not impossible to repair, just not worth it. That's structural damage. It would require a ton of time, epoxy, it won't ride the same and I wouldn't ever trust it for anything other than light cruising.

Good thing you weren't still attached during the meeting, I bet that was quite a collision. I can't even imagine one of those windsurfer fins encountering a a body part. Twin tips are tough as hell, people are meat balloons....

There is a technical expression accurately describing a board with that degree of damage: it is fubared.

just patch it as good as you can and ride it. If it breaks you have your decision. If it holds - good. This is a classical nothing to loose situation as the board is already toast. Just dont spend money to patchi it up. I have a board like this and it holds up well. And mine was on the heels side while yours is luckly on the toe side - a big difference.

Clean the gash out (remove the loose parts and sand it out generously) - and relayer it up - sand it and cover with stickers. G

Yes. Does not look to be in a key pressure spot unless you do heaps of toe-side. clean it up, patch with appropriate stuff like resin/fiberglass, sand back and maybe paint.

I have a Naish Motion 138 (exact same board as yours) that suffered the same kind of damage in 2 places: front and back fins on the left side.
It likely met the weels of a luggage truck when going to Turks and Caicos...
I patch it up with epoxy and a layer of fiber glass on top of the damaged areas, put the fins back, and it still ride very nice. I might have lost some flex, but hard to tell.

Sand the plastic top sheet off around wound 100mm cos nothing will stick to it.. do not go through to glass.. go slow.. u might b able to peel top sheet back? Fill and fair hole level... use epoxy and filled... or $2 shop epoxy or even car bog. Once sanded clean it with acetone before you apply glass and epoxy patches.


You can actually fix abs rail .. if it is and.. just get some abs .. make abs dust with 60 grit paper.. put it in a cup.. add some acetone.. mix it until it melts into a past... bog up the hole in rail.. sand and fair. It is a chemical bond!

If you want the epoxy to stick to the sidewall.. get a lighter and run the flame over it.. then wipe down with acetone.

I had similar damage, bit smaller 4-5cm.

Clean it, dry it, put epoxy resin deep in materials with syringe. Sandwich board between 2 planks and clamp.Put PE bag between board and planks to protect from gluing all together. Wait a day, sand off extra epoxy. Feel proud.

I still ride mine. For me even broken top layer edges aligned nicely when pressed, repair is almost invisible.

No problem at all to get it strong enough. Very hard to get it cosmetically good looking.

I would start with pressing it together with epoxy first. Then reinforce with 1-2 layers of thin glassfiber on the bottom and 3-4 layers on the top. It´s better with several layers of 80-100 grams/sqm glass than one layer of 300 grams. Make sure to sand the bottom side and the egde to a smooth surface.

Pfft... barely a scratch! Back in the day i snapped a board completely in two, couldn't afford a replacement so a bit of sheet steel and some coach bolts and i was back on the water within a few days !
