If you take your iphone kiteboarding with you, this free app works well.
It is called Waterspeed.
Here is my friend Daniel's track from when we were kiting a few days ago. You can see how fast you were going at any point.
When I am riding on our local flat water spot, I guess I average 28-35 mph. If I am going for a speed run on my normal board I get to 45mph when it's windy. When on my speed board I get to a little over 50 at full tilt but haven't used that board in a while.
I use a Locosys gt31 or more recently my gopro hero 7 with GPS turned. I appreciate the gt31 is far more accurate.
On twintip on very flat water I have reached 28kts. Normal riding upwind is usually around 14-15kts for twintip or directional board (not trying to break any speed records).
I generally find that GPS is not accurate in delivering maximum speeds. Especially if they are only held up for a few seconds.
I also don't care much for high speed. If I want to go fast and it feels fast I am happy.
However, I recently wanted to know just how fast I am going on average. I picked two buoys that I can identify on Google Maps, measured the distance between them with Google Maps, and then took the time needed to get from one to the other.
Strapless on the ocean with somewhat rough water on beam reach (90° to the wind) with around 20 knots of wind I was going 25km/h on average.

37mph average over 1/2 a mile, old C kite with a normal twintip. So faster than the average kiter at my local spot, but I reckon any of you guys could get that fast without much issue.
We get some horse riders and dog walkers on our beach, it's really fun to race them. Dogs can run fast! Horses too, but not much stamina, they slow down after 1/3 of a mile.
I raced a little terrier dog up and down the beach for a while. Then I came in to pet it and say hello, the little f.u.c.k.e.r bit me on the leg. But the dogs owner was a little cutie-pie in tight shorts, so that was nice.
