Even hyperlink V1 was better than Soul /for freeride HF/. Soul isnt very good FREERIDE foil kite. Its good kite but not for freeride HF.

I was out yesterday with my kite buddy at a strong wind flat water and wave location, wind 20 mph gusting to 28mph. we were drag racing (again)
he was on his 5mtr hyperlink ULight V1, me on my 8mtr Reo, same kit underfoot- 683s, I was holding ground but working very hard against the lift in the gusts, too much kite maybe, and after a mile he creamed past on overdrive smooth as silk and annoyingly impressive.
Might have to try it out sometime as it looked great in the wavy stuff as well, so stable and fast turning, looked so small compared to my "massive" looking 8mtr.
he broke his own top speed after checking the gps log after, even faster than his larger Chrono v3 Ulights, IMPRESSIVE!!

lesson learned , if you want to go faster then use a smaller kite that has good range, too much lift from a bigger kite slows you down and tires you out more quickly.
small foil kites are now on my radar, especially the small (easy relaunch) hyperlink :thumb:

I’d be interested in turning speed 13 Hyperlink V2 vs 12m Soul. Slow turning and especially slow looping was what eventually made me give up on the 12m Soul.
The Hyperlink V2 13m turns faster. It's a bit unfair comparing the Soul to the Hyperlink though. The Soul is more like a ChronoV3 with its Higher Aspect Ratio.

So the big question? 😁 Which is better all round for foiling and some twintip use as im looking to buy at the moment 👍
Ive never flown a Soul on the water, I dont ride TT anymore. But have been flying Hyperlink for 150 hours on water with HF.

My impression from reading is that the Soul/Chronos will give you higher jumps and loft, and Hyperlink is more agile.
For freeride/non -umping HF and TT i would say Hyperlink is overall easier to handle on beach and in air. New V2 is significantly more airtight- I am having difficulty packing it down...
My guess is that Hyperlink is way better at jumping than LEI kites, but perhaps not as good as Soul/Chronos.
But you should look at Gunnars videos. Perhaps he will answer here.

Question about bar pressure came up:
I can sheet with 2-3 fingers. Here is pic from 7-8 knots on V2 13m.

Not for a long time yet, I have to pay for my 15mtr and 9mtr chrono V3 Ultra lights this week, a new bar and new wing :o
I am treading on egg shells this week, so no new toys for a good while.
mind you its my birthday in a few weeks and christmas is just round the corner :D

I need to find out if I can drop down to a 5mtr hyperlink from my 9mtr chrono, but first of all I need to use my 9mtr chrono when it arrives this week.
might wait and see if Gunnar has a small v2 hyperlink for sale when on holiday there in 15 weeks.

Meaning what exactly???
Meaning:

Depower while flying through window is nonexistent on Soul, so you cannot regulate power of kite anywhere in WW except static flying on edge.
Turning speed - Soul is slow turning kite period.

These two things alone disqualified Soul as Freeride wave HF kite in anything else than very light wind.
Soul is very good kite - but market it for freeride HF is borderline scam...

What is good at Soul is much better airtightness than HL1 /HL2 is much better in this than HL1/ better water restart, Its stronger m2 to m2 than HL1 and it boost more than HL1

Good point above.
This is where the Soul reputation rubs off on the Hyperlink unfortunately.
Hyperlink is very good at depower. I wouldn't I find it works well in the small waves and bigger wind swell I hydrofoil in.

I will say that yesterday I was on Hyperlink 7m with full depower trim. Wind was 20-22 knots with some higher gusts. 20 m lines. I had to use upwind and Downwind angles at times to control power, keeping kite low, because if I put it over head I had too much lift and breach foil. It was quite wavy with 1,5 waves and 4sec period. So there is this depower issue at top end.
If I had 15m lines rigged it would be different.

Tom
you are maybe confirming my observations,
The lift you get from being well powered up on the smaller hyperlinks or other small "lifty" foil kites makes the choice of small foil kite for strong winds so critical,
I read so often about the tiny foil sizes some guys use and have wondered how and why they go so small, an lei will not deliver the kick to get up in these tiny sizes. as I see it, it is better to go down to say the 5mtr Hl when maybe a 7mtr would seem the better choice to many small lei users, then as you build speed the lift will not overpower the wing so easily, certainly we have proved that changing the wing from a 633 to the 683s smooths things out a lot, but using that with the smaller 5mtr will give a more enjoyable and controlled ride, for faster speed, upwind or off wind and wavy sections(not jaws type of course)
relaunch in the tiny HL size seems much more reliable with the airtight dimensions, just seems the kite bounces off the water and self relaunches, or much more likely to.
