I watched the delta hydrofoils video on using glazing putty and he freely used 400 grit across the whole mast for taking extra putty off. I suspect this is where I went wrong. When choosing to polish the wing how tolerant is it and to what level of sandpaper?

Also, I just want to add that i have zero interest in aesthetics and only functionality.

lol, this shit is hard man. and what if i just tape off the wing and high gloss spray the parts that look funky now?

The work feels super smooth at this point only with a subtle difference in how the finger slides over the scuffed region. Obviously this will be problematic to water flow to some degree, however this is the 790 so i'm assuming the low speed will negate some of the imperfection.

If I go the filler primer route why use yellow vs black?
I prefer to use yellow as it gives me a guide to work to, and the fact the only other colour I can find is grey.

yes it is hard work to get to the finish you want, lots of time and mess, sweat and sometimes tears when you cock it up.

but after a few wings you start to really enjoy it, Honest :thumb:

i will take a photo today of the finish I aim for, see if you like it, as to maintain it is very easy.

The 3 stages of what I do in pics.
The final pic is the Matt finish with the yellow showing at the edges, the finish I look for on my 633 and 683 wing sets, front and rear wings,

Exactly,
very light coatings sanded down between each pass really work well, and when going for the fine sanded finish tiny imperfections show more easily,
the yellow edges give a nice finish, and on one of my wings I have matted down to uncover a little more yellow all over which gives that unfinished custom made look, which I am still undecided on, but for now it is staying as it works so well.
I have also sprayed over all the moses logos and numbers on some of my wings which I do like the look of.
all good practice,
but not easy to get right at first, lots of patience is required as the carbon wings are full of micro air holes which annoyingly appear in patches and need time and thought to get rid of if you want to get to a near perfect finish. :thumb:

...can I use JB Marine Weld and wrap it in that stuff on a roll for packing for a smooth finish, or does it need exposure to air?

I have only tried the clear tape trick once, it failed for me as it failed to cure correctly,
maybe leaving it for 2 days, not one day like I did may work, fingers crossed.

I tried baking soda super glue trick yesterday. Best thing since sliced bread. I did not know about. Highly recommended. Slight problem is only that this stuff is VERY hard. So build it slowly do you have not too much sand. It is hard INSTANT so you can build it in layers for bigger repair.

How big a repair were you doing?

I've looked again at mine, and what I thought was a massive hole is really just a deep scratch -- if I tried to add any glass, it'd be too thick.
