quick release ejecting accidentally

Postby szert » Wed Sep 04, 2019 6:55 pm

The quick release on my 2017 (?) Airush bar has ejected twice today without activating. It happened both times when the kite had a bigger pull (not extreme).

I tested on land and seems impossible to eject it by pulling although i couldn't the same load on it as on water.

Experienced kiters told i might just accidentally touched the release thingy. indeed it is quite sensitive.

It never happened before but I only been on the water ca. 15 times yet.

Any advice what i am doing wrong or is it issue with my bar?

I don't know all quick releases around.

Do you care to provide some pictures in general or of yours in particular? Maybe add a little more info on when and how it happened while you are at it.

Only been about 15 times on the water? Can we assume you're still a rookie?
Maybe you're pulling the bar all the way in too often and by doing so you might hit the QR in a particular way that makes it release?

I've heard some say that the bulk of an impact/float vest can sometimes make contact against a QR and cause an accidental release. If your QR is "sensitive" this could be the issue. Do you wear a vest?

it's an airush progression bar from 2017 i think.
it looks like the image below.

both occasions were when the kite made a sudden big pull. So likely i was pulling the bar all the way in but tbh not sure as so many things were happening :)))

indeed, rookie. 100m ride is my personal record so far. :)
Maybe I'm pulling too much, but it boggles me that it never happened before and today 2x ..

I wrap a rubber band around mine to keep it from sliding out too easily. It works. Can still punch out no problem if need be.

I think if the tolerance is a tad too much or the the thing gets a tad worn it punches out easier.

These are actually fairly hard to activate by accident, unless either there's something bogus going on with it - or you're doing something what you aren't aware of.

Have you picked it up used? Are both elastics there? In what condition is the release mechanism?

the small elastic bungees inside the release may well be too weak.
the ones in my v4 ozone quick release were way too "slack" and I had quite a few releases caused by just brushing the release upwards with my,
arm- once,
impact vest-twice
and catching on the side of my foil board just before waterstarting, 4 times!
easily fixed.
just pulled one end of each little bungee out of its hole with fine nose pliers and moved the stop knot nearly 2cm down, checked it worked as predicted, which it did,
(I did take it too far at first and it needed too much force to push out the release , but because I did not cut off the tail of the small bungee elastic I could alter it a little)
now its perfect.
however due to the foil board catching the lip of the quick release in bumby seas when pushing the board down from body dragging out, then I also ground down the excessive size of the quick release lip, not something you need to bother with on a Ttip.
