I think standard is #12 stainless 1” screw.
1.5” should do just fine for a thick board and thick pads

Those screws look way short. I just put a new hook on my dwarfcraft yesterday and it was locked in tight, foiled a couple hours with no loosening.

also when you try any other screw then ensure its been blunted to a completely flat end.
this will do two things.
1- offer more full threads to engage.
2-if it bottoms out then you should notice that point of blunt contact, this is the point where you might need to test the footstap for being secure, if not then add an extra washer under the screw head, or grind off a mm or two and try again, washer has been meen my prefered solution.
one line of screw holes is never the best for them hooks, they leaver the screws out too easily being so solid,
its like removing a screw with a claw hammer or a flexible webbing strap like a soft footstrap, the claw hammer will do it with comparative ease.

dumped my hooks very quickly for this reason and after having my bar/lines hooked under.

if you are buying new screws try and get "PT SCREWS" like in the picture 'regular self tapping screws are not strong in plastic inserts

I had this same issue with slingshot hooks on an alien air. Short screws were ripping the plastic inserts out of the board. I measured and figured a 1 1/2" #12 would be about the max based on hole depth. I swapped holes and used 1 1/4" #12s. No further problems.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I contacted the shop and apparently there's been a batch of hooks sold with too short screws. They were happy to send me a new set :D Hopefully the holes in the board will still work.

I must've received the short screws as well. I didn't like the idea of self tapping screws though, so I installed stainless threaded inserts into the holes and I'm using M6 bolts now.

By the time I got my replacement screws the holes were too stripped for the longer screws to do their job. The hook ended up pulling out, at which point
I went hookless. If I were jumping etc, I would want to research a bombproof option, and would not trust that the longer screws would work in compromised holes

I like the idea of inserts. What kind if inserts are they?

I cleaned off the red glue before installing them and put them in with a high strength marine adhesive. Used a bolt covered in vaseline as the installation tool and left that in while the glue dried. The bolt backed out no problem, and the inserts have been rock solid for 8 sessions now.
