You will not regret getting a Flydoor or similar in at least a 160. I have the 160 and 170 and it opened up a whole bigger kiting range. I am 90kg and am often the only twin tip rider out with those on foils and having light wind fun around shore and shallows, not having to venture way out in case the wind dies. Complimented with my Contra’s. I can get to kite in 11 or 12kn. Do it, you won’t regret it.

Much thanks for all your advice. I think I will invest in a "door" or make one myself. I really do not think hydrofoil is for me as my main spot is shallow and has lots of weeds.

I wish I did not sell my custom Zebra board. The Gooch foot pads were so comfortable. I could cruise upwind at 10 knots on my Cab 21.5 Blacktip.

I also had a large skim board. Used to ride the flats with it in low tide.

We go to OBX spring and fall for month and my little doors get used quite a lot. As has been reported low rocker and straight outline make a HUGE difference in UPWIND ability. Not cool it seems but works when foils are grounded.

More opinions,

I found a door the perfect short term solution (easier and cheaper than a foil) for a light wind session.
Started with Crazyfly then moved to a lighter (weight) Nomad.
One day I hope to foil but don’t have the skills or time to develop in the short term.
I know my door will work all kiteable depths,
costs less to ship around,
is lighter to carry,
doesn’t need as long to setup and saved me about 1.1k verse a foil.

That said, I want to progress and will eventually learn to foil as the satisfaction will be like learning to Kitesurf again which you won’t get from a door. Maybe see it as a journey and not a choice.

Not what I said.

Foils have limitations, including:
1. Prerequisite of good kite skills
2. Expense of initial investment
3. Strapless = mowing lawn or stuck to surface level tricks
4. Strapped = more fun but injuries likely/inevitable
5. Needs water more depth
6. Needs mostly weed/debris free water

LW TTs have the advantage in all the categories above.

But LW TTs have their own limitations, including.

1. Less upwind capability
2. 1-2knots more wind required
3. Requires larger kites (expensive)

Anyone else with SS Glide experience? Is this a good lightwind board? I guess I ask because the shape is so basic and straight. It's cool but almost too simple and pure to be true.
