Thanks for that.... What bar would you recommend? Am looking at Infinity (M) on 17 m lines, or Ozone foil contact on 20 m lines.
The Infinit M 17m is what I also would recommend. As I don't know exactly the Ozone bar in all details, i cannot comment.

Have fun, Armin

To have additional >=30cm of additional length while flagging out at the frontline is also very recommended.
Dear Armin,

thank you very much. The 30cm additional lenght in relation to what? To the wing span or half the wing span? E.g. the Soul 10 has 7,45 m wingspan. If you mean half wingspan that would be at least 4,025m flagout line.

Thanks

Thomas

When you release the kite to a frontline safety the remaining lines should all have at least 30cm slack. The best is to have the kite release to the safety and pull at the flagged out wingtip and check the slack of the remaining lines.
That is roughly half wingspan + about 1 meter.

My question is and I'm surprised no one asked "what are you doing if you've had to pull the safety twice in the first few sessions ?"

Learning to fly a foil kite and making mistakes :D :-?
First time I brushed water with a wingtip and got it stuck which made me fall and lines slacked which in turn flipped the kite around and one of the end lines got around the edge of the kite... I relaunched it and realised what happened ... It did fly with the line around the edge but was afraid to damage the kite so pulled the safety.
Second time I crushed jumping and lines slacked again making a kite spin in the air and fall in the water all mangled up. Couldnt relaunch so pulled safety as was pulling me downwind ... Which then started pulling even more.

In my earlier years I was more concerned with how kites released. Discovered that if safety was adjusted just right, not too long or short, much like Armin is describing, foil kites were much less likely to develop tangles in the bridles, which was a problem at the time. I now practically never release my kite and if I do my life and not tangles are a concern, as such I use no stoppers at all. In waves it actually is best to release the whole kite to avoid damage to it, which is more relevant to tubes which are much more susceptible to damage in waves than foils. Many wave riders ride no leash for this reason, especially in large waves.

Same with me. Actually I have never done it in emergency, only for landing alone if there was no help around and I felt there was too much wind to backstall. I have never seen a foilkite deathloop, and construction wise I think the risks for this are low.

I just changed a safety line from a Flysurfer infinity bar. The line is longer than half of the length of the lines. The lines are 20m (17+3) meaning that the safety line is more than 10m long( where it stops ). As this bar is to be used up to a 12m Soul (50 cm bar) i guess the soul needs a lot of slack when released to be completely depowered. I guess more than 10meters since the line lenght is longer than half if the 20m lines. Much more than on inflatables. If you are using a bar which is trimmed for an inflatable you will definetly need to make the stopper much longer on the depower line. Yes the Soul 12m wingspan is less than 10m but dont forget that the briddle is a couple of meters long, maybe more?

I fly a soul 21 with the stock bar and when I release it can get very frisky. This thread got me thinking. I put 3 meter extensions on it would that affect the flag out? This should be simple but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the concept. But I love my soul, my only wish is it was a little tougher. I use my gear on sea, land, and snow therefore it gets some rough use. But on the plus side my sewing skills are getting better :thumb:

If you put the extension at the kite end it won't effect the flagging.
