I have loads of experience with clam cleats and sheathed lines and have not had the problems you describe.

Maybe you use inferior material or use it wrong? You might want to check on that.

It is important that the clam cleat size matches the size of the line used in it. Going up or down on the suggested diameters can result in failure of the clam cleat.

Also make sure the sheathing sits tight on the dyneema. If unsure you may fix it with a stitch. Otherwise problems like you describe may occur. This usually only is a problem when you take out some of the dyneema or get rid of some of the sheathing, hence sheathing and dyneema are of different length.

Finally, a clam cleat release works by pulling down (the way it is usually mounted in kite surfing). Pulling up or out will not release easily and will damage the material. Both, lines and cleat.

Proper material as well as proper usage will extend the lifetime of any equipment and will add to safety! Always make sure to use the gear according to its specification.

Safe kiting!

Glad I could help!

See also the clam cleat homepage for instructions on how to use correctly.

"It allows the immediate release of the rope by a short upward and backward pull."

Do we need to pull it with both hands or just one? It doesn't say, what will I do now ?

If you are unsure about basic stuff like that I suggest to take a few lessons before heading out. :bye: :naughty:

The Variable V is that just knotted to your line? It doesn't slide down?

Thanks

I am looking at your site and the A3 design is pretty much the FS design. I hated it. And here is why:

- the 'safety' line wraps around the middle line with every kite loop. And not that I loop a lot. After 6-10 wraps it is impossible to unwrap the line manually.
- when the lines are off the kite, the wrapped line makes it really hard to walk the lines. this is because this two lines are now wrapped around each other.
- the only solution is to loop the kite exact number of times to opposite. But:
- with no swivel, this is creating even worse situation with mid lines wrapped creating an safety issue when releasing!

Food for thoughts...
You’re thinking of the Ozone bar.

The Infinity bars has a double depower line and the safety doesn’t wrap. The mini-5th can twist along the center line where it’s spliced if you do endless loops in one direction but doesn’t compromise itself when released.

Infinity has BTB swivel that unwinds “automatically” when you next sheet in...

On above pic is not the Ozone bar, but older FS.

Correct, mini 5th did that. Super annoying and dumped it all together. Much more happier.

Infinity 3, but it still has (or should, I can’t see it in that picture) a safety line through the center of the QR. it never wraps there or anywhere below the last couple of inches of the line.
