I found it more hassle when leaving the bar attached, so after two attempts I never repeated leaving the bar attached,
my wife pauline is normally with me every time I go sailing, she has never used a kite of any sort and just watched me set up and helped me land most of the time.
I only fly chrono v3 kites and a few small hyperlinks.
so get this!
last Sunday as I dropped my kit on the beach a guy I know came talking to me and we were yapping away for ages.
when he left i turned back to my gear
Pauline had set up not only the 9mtr chrono, and rolled out the bar, but had sorted out the lines and attached up, the kite was set up all ready to launch,
bar was just lying there on the beach ready for me to clip in.
remember I have only been using these foil kites for 4 months, pauline has never used a kite of any sort.
without any hesitation I clipped in, shouted over to pauline "ready" she gave me a thumbs up, and the kite took off, not a problem at all.
new generation foil kites are so easy to set up.
quick and easy.
but yes, the change over from Lei kites can be confusing for a short while, even stressful for a few weeks,
but it all comes together with a little practice and learning from the mistakes you will make.
the old grey sticky long confusing bridals of old, are history.

Twigs, dried seaweed and rocks can be annoying. If you can find a reasonable clear patch to launch from you can go from rolled kite to air in 30 to 90seconds. They truly are very easy and quick to launch, you can even quite easily launch and land them on the water if you have no good land for it. It took me a few years to work out the quickest and easiest methods to launch and land, I can launch in maybe 20seconds if pushing, but I have worked it out on my own. I most definitely recognize they can be difficult, things can go wrong and messy tangles can result. That though is experience and technique. I think after shown good technique you would be good with them after maybe 30 launches, landing more as there is so many valid techniques.

Land and launching a foil kite with a hydrofoil is even extra easy as you are so underpowered. Try backstall landing a 15m foil kite in 25-30knots! On a Hydrofoil you can be using a 2-3m kite, that is literally a trainer kite size, a toy size and unlike them a proper kite will have depower etc, too easy. The power you need from a kite to hydrofoil you can pull the kite in from the air on it's front lines and land it where you stand, try that with your tube kite!

Pauline did admit to a tiny panic moment when she realised I was not going to check her work,
but you all should know why i trusted her :thumb:

show lack of trust and its :angryfire: :argue: :angryfire:

she is a diamond, and all the guys trust her to launch and land them in any wind.
but she sufferers no fools either.

Remind me that i would not be able to learn kite by myself in 2000 as first in my inland country without infinite support from my wife.

To all kite wifes! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Huh? So... are you saying I can grab both front lines (light wind)... then hand-over-hand 17m of line and capture my leading edge? Seems like as soon as I come on with those front lines it would fly forward over my 12 o'clock?

Thank You.

Plenty of videos of people hand over hand on the front lines too. I just can't be arsed to find them right now.

I do it all my 5 months of solo winters in Mexico with a BRM Cloud. Park it over by 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock and walk up the front lines. But straight up is new to me, and never on a foil kite.

I think you would have a undesirable mess with a foil kite
