Issues with screw-in "Boston" valve

I believe that the screw-in valve type shown in the photo below is called a "Boston Valve". It's used on many kites including Ozone and Naish etc...

I'm finding that the wider diameter cylindrical shape pump nozzle doesn't fit very tightly into the valve hole, so when the kite reaches 2 or 3 PSI, the pump nozzle pops out due to not being a tight enough fit. So then I have to pump the remainder using 1 hand to hold the nozzle, and one hand on the pump

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and have a solution?

In my experience there can be some slight variation in the Boston pump adapter diameter size between brands.
I would try to check a few versions in a kite store or ask people on the beach. Maybe it can be fixed with a new (universal) adapter set.

Other option that might work is putting a little bit of tape on your adapter to increase the diameter a bit. (Never trier that)

I had the same problem,
but found the North pump boston valve adaptor that comes with the pump fits just great, its the green one.

2 black ones I had from another pump did not fit well and just popped off as I was pumping up

sent my 2 north pumps back to mark at boardworx, both have the boston valve adaptor thats fits.

only sent them 2 weeks back so he may still have them for sale, both used but great condition.
totally pumpless now!

If the pump-side adapter has a smooth finish, try roughing it up with some sandpaper.

I have a North pump. Same as the photo below.

I'll try those 2 methods - sanding and/ taping the nozzle

Dave, try sanding as jjm mentioned. The nozzle will penetrate deeper and problem is solved

True, if you have a "new" pump and/or kitevalve, it will often not fit very well and pop out too easily, I was swearing a lot years ago when having the first of these....

When used and roughed up, it sits a lot better, so problem wears off in time.

My latest kites from Storm Kites, has this special Boston type valve that can be mounted on any Boston Valve kite, but a lot better as it will never pop out because you just click the hose end directiy onto the valve so fixed.

Think others use it too, Cabrinha and Slingshot?

Cant you get the correct adapter that screws onto the threads of the boston valve? I used to use those push it in hope it stays while pumping type valves then wmfg came out with the adaptor that screws direct to the valve making it 100% leak proof and popping out proof.

Now the airport valve on north duotone is a different story it looks like the end of a pump end but of course smaller and requires another special adapter. I believe new naishes are now shying from the boston to some crazy new sup type inflator. Its like cell phones you get all these charging things built up then a new friggen cord comes out and your off to buy more crap to do simple tasks.

I checked my pump nozzle this evening and the problem is that the nozzle isn't a tight enough fit. Even when pushed in all the way the nozzle is barely tight in the valve.

I think I do need a screw-on pump nozzle like the one in your photo above. Any idea where I can buy one of these?
